This multidisciplinary position provides the engineer a chance to interact with many of the key teams within the company. The Systems Engineer will assist with the architecture, integration, and life-cycle success of a single or multiple aircraft systems, ranging from requirements management, development, certification, and entry into service. Systems Engineers will coordinate between various departments - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software, Joby Test Team,  Flight Test, Manufacturing, and Operations - as necessary to ensure the technical success of their system(s). Systems Engineers will work closely with FAA Engineers and Joby DERs to ensure their responsible system(s) comply with all federal airworthiness regulations.</p><p> </p><p>This position requires a basic understanding of aircraft systems, system development, and industry-specific certification processes. Forward thinking and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment are a must.</p><p> </p><p>The Systems Engineer - Mechanical will be responsible for some or all systems related to:</p><ul> <li>System 21 – Environmental Controls</li> <li>System 25 - Systems and Equipment</li> <li>System 30 – Ice and Rain Protection</li> <li>System 32 – Landing Gear</li> <li>System 52 – Doors</li></ul><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Generate, review, approve, and manage system requirements – including but not limited to regulatory, safety, human factors, design, environmental, manufacturing, quality, operational, and service requirements</li> <li>Serve as the system-level focal point for integration and coordination activities with various departments and the certification authorities</li> <li>Participate in multi-disciplinary design reviews throughout the different phases of development, certification, and production readiness as required to coordinate and communicate system design projects</li> <li>Assist with trade studies, analyses, and test programs as necessary to validate system architectures meet all requirements</li> <li>Generate and/or review:</li> <ul>  <li>System safety analyses, such as FHAs, FTAs, CCAs, etc.</li>  <li>Engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications</li>  <li>Engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications</li>  <li>System and equipment test plans and reports</li>  <li>Compliance documentation</li>  <li>System engineering processes</li> </ul></ul><ul> <li>Coordinate as required to execute and manage system design projects, testing, certification, production readiness, etc.</li> <li>Work with various company departments to ensure equipment and low-level designs meet all system and aircraft-level requirements.</li> <li>Various project management tasks as required.</li> <li>Supplier Coordination during RFQ</li> <li>Design development and qualification of supplier components</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>3+ years experience of relevant industry experience</li> <li>Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering preferred</li> <li>A passion for aircraft, engineering and electric air transportation</li> <li>Self-starter and able to learn on the job</li> <li>Skilled at creating and reviewing technical schematics, logical and functional diagrams, and engineering specifications</li> <li>Excellent problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills</li> <li>Basic knowledge of FAA regulations and guidance material and industry standards</li> <li>Proficient in English</li> <li>Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Docs</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>6+ years experience of relevant industry experience</li> <li>Master of Science in Engineering required; Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering preferred</li> <li>Working knowledge of SAE ARP 4754A, ARP 4761, and familiarity with 2X.1309 analyses and processes, including Advisory Circular 23.1309-1E</li> <li>Working knowledge of DO-160G environmental qualification</li> <li>Previous experience with aircraft systems</li> <li>Private pilot certificate or higher</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $135,100 - $180,200/year.
