REPORTS TO Section Manager or any other person appointed to supervise him/her from time to time.<div>PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE </div>This position is responsible for the for handling geotechnical investigations for infrastructure projects and provide recommendations that guide the project development.<div>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES </div><ul><li>Geotechnical investigations including desktop studies, prefeasibility to detail design investigations and reporting.</li><li>Collect and analyse data for project planning and design.</li><li>Supervise geotechnical Contractors on site including the appointment of Contractors, managing site operations, payment certificates, quality, health and safety, performance, and project timelines.</li><li>Supervise and manage small teams (Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, Graduates).</li><li>Develop increased design ability and quality.</li><li>Prepare and deliver technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.</li><li>Make technical decisions and provide solutions rather than one completed end result.</li><li>Able to present / represent their technical work.</li><li>Develop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management.</li><li>Develop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets.</li><li>Ability to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications.</li><li>Construction administration and monitoring.</li><li>Preparation of tenders for investigations and construction including BoQ’s and specifications.</li><li>Preparation of tender bids to clients including draft cost estimates.</li><li>Development of internal standards and implementing them.</li><li>Develop solutions to complex engineering problems.</li><li>Perform design work duties.</li><li>Apply SMEC’s systems and procedures and ensure enforcement.</li><li>Working with clients to capture their requirements.</li><li>Client invoicing.</li><li>Project auditing.</li><li>Project management and lead.</li><li>Project financial forecasting, budgets, and associated resource planning.</li><li>Regular client contacts without Senior Managers.</li></ul><div>KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS </div><ul><li>Ability to lead and manage projects (with support) from inception to invoicing.</li><li>Deliver projects on time and with the highest level of quality.</li><li>In depth geotechnical reporting.</li><li>Understanding of the SMEC/SJ Group systems and requirements.</li><li>Planning of workload to meet deadlines.</li><li>Positive client feedback - both internal and external clients.</li><li>Achieving developmental goals.</li><li>Continuous learning and development.</li></ul><div>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  </div><ul><li>Bsc Hons in Engineering Geology or Geology or related.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of practical experience within a geotechnical engineering firm.</li><li>Professionally registered with SACNASP (PrSci.Nat) and with SAIEG (Candidate to Member)</li><li>Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets.</li><li>Knowledge of project management and the use of project management tools.</li><li>Professionalism.</li><li>Extensive experience in geotechnical investigations and reporting on variety of projects.</li></ul>We are proud of the brilliant minds we have at SMEC and are committed to ensuring that our people have the best opportunities and resources to learn, grow and succeed.
