<h3>The Role</h3>Carba valorizes waste organic material by converting it to biocarbon for use in materials (e.g., tires, concrete), as permanent carbon removal for carbon credits (“anoxic biochar burial” with 1,000-year durability), and as a soil amendment (traditional biochar).As our first Finance and Business Operations Manager, you’ll play a critical role in building the internal systems and executional rigor that support Carba’s growth from R&amp;D to commercial deployment. You’ll lead strategic planning processes, financial planning and analysis, day to day financial operations, investor reporting and compliance, manage high-priority initiatives, and own key external relationships across finance and strategic operations.This is an opportunity for a growth minded operator who thrives in high-autonomy, fast-paced environments and wants to help build a company from the ground up — with the backing of seasoned technical founders. Join Carba to build the future of carbon!&nbsp;<h3>What You’ll Do</h3>While this role is broad, your core responsibilities will include:<ul><li>Strategic &amp; Operational Planning: Lead company-wide planning processes, including OKRs, FP&amp;A, 18-month roadmaps, and weekly/quarterly operating rhythms</li><li>Cross-Functional Project Leadership: Drive critical initiatives across R&amp;D, site development, partnerships, and internal operations; own outcomes and accountability</li><li>Finance &amp; Legal Oversight: Manage relationships and deliverables with outsourced accounting and legal teams; support budgeting, fundraising, compliance, and contracting</li><li>Systems &amp; Process Development: Design and implement scalable systems (e.g. Google Suite, AI tools) to improve clarity, coordination, and speed across the organization</li><li>Partnership Operations: Support business development and site development by managing operational aspects of supplier, customer, and strategic partner relationships</li><li>Organization Enablement: Identify bottlenecks, propose solutions, and work cross-functionally to enable better decision-making and execution as we grow</li></ul><h3>About You</h3><ul><li>5–10 years of experience in business operations, finance, consulting, or early-to-growth stage startups</li><li>Strong ownership mindset; able to lead cross-functional initiatives from strategy to execution with limited oversight</li><li>Highly organized, systems-oriented, and effective at prioritizing competing demands</li><li>Skilled communicator and operator — comfortable working with technical teams, external partners, and executive leadership</li><li>Financial fluency (e.g., budgeting, P&amp;Ls, supporting fundraising, vendor oversight)</li><li>Proven ability to bring structure to ambiguous environments and scale internal operations</li><li>Mission-driven with a deep interest in climate technology and infrastructure</li><li>MBA or equivalent experience is welcome, but not required</li></ul><h3>Bonus Points</h3><ul><li>Experience in cleantech, industrial technology, or venture-backed deep tech companies</li><li>Familiarity with manufacturing, supply chain, or capital project operations</li><li>Played a key role in scaling a company through Seed to Series A/B and beyond</li></ul><h3>What Success Looks Like</h3>In your first 12–18 months, you will have built the operational backbone that enables Carba to execute its first commercial deployments — while maintaining the agility and focus of a seed-stage startup. Your work will directly accelerate Carba’s mission of removing millions of tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere, and you’ll be positioned to grow into a senior leadership role as the company scales.
