This position requires an experienced professional responsible for the design and development of joints and bolted fasteners across the vehicle. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.<br><br>Role</p><ul><li>Support the Design Engineer’s development activities in the selection of fasteners based upon usage, coating and part strength to meet their joint requirements</li><li>Collaborate with cross functional teams such as Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Purchasing, Suppliers and other internal and external partners to develop robust joint solutions to facilitate world class designs</li><li>Required to create and maintain 3D standard parts &amp; 2D drawings using Catia V6</li><li>Strive to achieve commonization of fasteners with assembly-friendly solutions</li><li>Participate in the root cause analysis of fastener related quality issues as well as other continuous improvement activities as required</li><li>Design custom fastening solutions when necessary</li><li>Diligently follow industry standards where applicable</li><li>Interface with fastener suppliers to develop, release and update engineering specifications, ensure proper material properties, processes, and quality standards</li><li>Review test data and undertake post-testing activities including design allowable calculations, and failure mode analysis</li><li>Conduct joint analysis and validation in addition to establishing fastener catalog standard to develop a robust mechanical joining strategy for the vehicle</li><li>Contribute with CAE team to specify load, determine stress limits and improve fastener analysis method</li><li>Perform bolted joint analysis and testing to optimize robustness and minimize the design cost</li><li>Track and monitor the progress of fastener selections, releasing and validation activities</li><li>Investigate the latest fastening technologies and guide the deployment into future Lucid vehicles in the Hardware engineering areas such as powertrain, battery systems, body structures, closures, interiors, and exteriors</li><li>Ability to create testing plan and conduct / coordinate physical tests to prove out design concepts and ensure performance targets are being achieved</li><li>Coordinate and communicate with interfacing suppliers to ensure requirements are being met</li><li>Effectively provide direction to others and negotiate a balanced solution</li><li>Determine required tolerances using GD&amp;T</li><li>Testing experience (especially ultrasonics and strain gauge)</li><li>Torque audit experience (needs to be familiar with the various tools used to apply and read torque)</li><li>Theoretical calculation experience (for hard and soft joints)</li><li>Travel domestically and internationally as required</li></ul><p><br>Qualifications</p><ul><li>5+ years of expertise in automotive Fastener engineering at OEM or supplier desired</li><li>Experience in fastener mechanical testing such torque to failure</li><li>Experience in the criteria required for fastener selections and recommendations</li><li>Experience performing design reviews of fastener joints</li><li>Solid understanding of GD&amp;T standards, material selections, and DFM principles</li><li>Design release engineering experiences including engineering change management and project management experiences desired</li><li>Proven 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software</li><li>Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly and production assembly with the willingness to assemble your own parts</li><li>Experience in technology, system and supplier selections</li></ul><p><br>Education</p><ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from ABET accredited institution or equivalent professional automotive fastening experience</li></ul><p><br>Advantageous</p><ul><li>Knowledge of fasteners and the automotive quality standards (APQP, PPAP, D-FMEA, GD&amp;T)</li><li>material compatibility and the physics of joint loads</li><li>Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial</li><li>Detail oriented personality with a determined problem-solving attitude using an Engineering first principles approach</li><li>Proof of excellence in your past position, while demonstrating profound creativity in resolving mechanical design problems</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting to management</li></ul><div> </div><div>At Lucid, we don’t just welcome diversity - we celebrate it!
