Job Summary:The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays and medium voltage (MV) overhead and underground distribution systems. The candidate must hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license and demonstrate expertise in producing high-quality design drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and efficient electrical systems.Key Responsibilities:<ul> <li>Design and Drafting:</li> <ul> <li>Develop detailed design drawings and electrical specifications for solar PV arrays, electrical schematics, and interconnection details. </li> <li>Create designs for overhead and underground medium voltage (15kV–35kV) distribution systems, including single-line diagrams, staking sheets, and protection schemes. </li> <li>Utilize AutoCAD to produce accurate and compliant design drawings.</li> </ul> <li>Engineering Analysis:</li> <ul> <li>Perform electrical calculations, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies for solar and MV distribution systems. </li> <li>Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and system optimization for solar arrays and distribution networks. </li> <li>Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.</li> </ul> <li>Code and Standards Compliance:</li> <ul> <li>Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NESC, and local utility requirements. </li> <li>Prepare and submit permit applications and coordinate with regulatory authorities and utilities for approvals.</li> </ul> <li>Project Management and Collaboration:</li> <ul> <li>Provide technical guidance during design, construction, commissioning, and testing phases. </li> <li>Review contractor submittals and provide recommendations to ensure adherence to design specifications.</li> </ul> <li>Documentation and Reporting:</li> <ul> <li>Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies. </li> <li>Maintain accurate project records and ensure timely delivery of design deliverables.</li> </ul></ul>Qualifications:<ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. </li> <li>Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina (or ability to obtain within 6 months). </li> <li>Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3 years focused on solar PV systems and/or medium voltage distribution design. </li> <li>Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD) and other electrical design tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, or CYME). </li> <li>Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NESC, and other relevant codes and standards. </li> <li>Experience with solar array design, including PV panel layouts, inverters, and balance of systems (BOS). </li> <li>Expertise in medium voltage (15kV–35kV) overhead and underground distribution system design, including transformers, switchgear, and protective devices. </li> <li>Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. </li> <li>Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. </li> <li>Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul> <li>Experience with energy storage systems (ESS) integration with solar arrays. </li> <li>Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and grid integration standards. </li> <li>Knowledge of SCADA systems and control integration for distribution networks. </li></ul>
