Sightline Climate also produces <a href="https://ctvc.co/">CTVC</a>, the industry-leading newsletter read by 60,000 climate leaders.<h2>The Role</h2>We’re looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to help scale and evolve the infrastructure that powers Sightline’s climate intelligence platform. You’ll design and build the foundational systems that enable our developers to deliver fast, secure, and reliable software.Key responsibilities include:<ul><li>Design, build, and maintain the core AWS-based platform that supports our data and web products</li><li>Manage our Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability and optimal performance</li><li>Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for automated testing and deployment</li><li>Create and maintain infrastructure as code to ensure consistent, repeatable environments</li><li>Establish strong observability through metrics, logging, and alerting systems (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)</li><li>Manage networking, security, and data services within AWS (VPC, IAM, RDS)</li><li>Partner with engineers to enhance developer experience—streamlining local environments, deployments, and workflows</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and application issues in production environments</li></ul><h2>Must Haves</h2><ul><li>8+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or similar roles</li><li>Strong experience with AWS (ECS, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, RDS, VPC, IAM)</li><li>Experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production environments</li><li>Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines</li><li>Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, etc.)</li><li>Experience with infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, etc.)</li><li>Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure</li><li>Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams</li><li>Ability to work in our London office 3 days per week</li></ul><h2>A Plus</h2><ul><li>Experience with database administration and optimization</li><li>Familiarity with data pipelines</li><li>Familiarity with Python and JavaScript applications</li><li>Experience working in a fast-growing startup environment</li></ul><h2>Hiring Process</h2><ul><li>Initial call with VP Eng (30 mins)</li><li>Systems design discussion with engineering team (~90 mins)</li><li>Technical assessment focusing on AWS and Kubernetes scenarios (60 mins)</li><li>Reference checks + offer</li></ul><h2>Our Offer</h2><ul><li>Opportunity to work, learn, and make an impact at a fast-growing climate tech startup</li><li>Competitive compensation</li><li>Generous stock options</li><li>25 days annual leave + bank holidays</li><li>Flexible working arrangement (3 days in London office, 2 days remote)</li></ul>Sightline Climate is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or any other legally protected status.We want people from all walks of life to feel valued for their individuality, thrive in our business and share a sense of belonging.
