Timmons Group is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer III - Protection &amp; Controls to join our Electrical Design Group located in our Charlotte, NC office. Remote candidates will be considered. Responsibilities include preparation of P&amp;C drawings, substation project design, studies, and technical documents in the support of the design of substation engineering projects throughout the country.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Participate in the detailed design of medium to high-voltage utility substations</li><li>Develop detailed design, including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, and selection of substation P&amp;C equipment</li></ul><ul><li>Translate written scope documents into comprehensive P&amp;C substation design and drawing package using good engineering judgment and industry/client standards with minimal oversight</li><li>Analyze system faults and disturbances to optimize protection strategies using standard industry software (ETAP, Aspen OneLiner, etc.)</li><li>Integrate substation automation systems with SCADA and communication protocols.</li><li>Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE)</li><li>Support project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with clients and stakeholders</li><li>Mentor junior engineers and designers in protection and control principles and practices</li><li>Occasional travel required</li></ul>Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering</li><li>Minimum of 7 years’ experience in utility substation design</li><li>EIT Certification / PE registration strongly preferred</li><li>Experience in 15kV through 138kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards</li><li>Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design is a plus</li><li>MicroStation (V8 or newer) or AutoCAD (2016 or newer) is preferred</li><li>Experience performing P&amp;C design in AutoCAD Electrical using relevant design, analysis and documentation using industry standard software</li><li>Ability to manage multiple P &amp; C design projects (brownfield and greenfield projects)</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills</li><li>Ability to adapt and apply standard engineering approaches to complex challenges</li></ul>
