The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of patent strategy, prosecution, and portfolio management—coupled with the skill to transform intricate technologies into a competitive edge. You are as comfortable advising engineers and product leaders on invention capture as you are counseling executives on market positioning, risk, and IP monetization.You thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments, balancing rigor with creativity to shape frameworks that enable responsible innovation in areas like AI, automation, and advanced manufacturing. With a combination of technical fluency, commercial insight, and practical judgment, you’ll help safeguard Re:Build’s most valuable assets—its ideas, technologies, and people—while empowering teams to innovate boldly and confidently.<h2>What you get to do</h2>Plan and implement detailed intellectual property strategies in alignment with Re:Build's manufacturing and innovation goals<ul><li>Build and manage global patent portfolio to support business expansion and competitive positioning</li><li>Provide strategic IP guidance to senior leadership on product development, market entry, and business transactions</li><li>Lead brainstorming sessions with R&amp;D and engineering teams to uncover and seize high-value innovations</li><li>Review and approve patent applications, office action responses, and prosecution strategies to ensure quality and alignment with business goals</li></ul>New Product Development Support: Develop frameworks to support and accelerate responsible innovation<ul><li>Provide specialized legal advice on complex product issues, balancing compliance with strategic goals, including risk balancing issues and non-standard product launches</li><li>Advise on a wide range of legal issues relating to new products including AI governance and emerging technologies (including AI, ML, GenAI, IoT, and automation technologies), privacy and data security, and open-source software</li></ul>Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering, R&amp;D, product development, and manufacturing teams to integrate IP considerations into innovation processes<ul><li>Provide IP training and education to employees across all business units to ensure compliance and improve IP value</li><li>Work closely with commercial teams to address intellectual property components of partnerships, joint ventures, and technology licensing opportunities</li></ul>Contract Negotiation &amp; Licensing: Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements including licensing deals, joint development agreements, and technology transfer contracts<ul><li>Manage IP provisions in manufacturing agreements, supply contracts, and commercial partnerships</li><li>Handle IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic business transactions</li></ul>Litigation Support &amp; Enforcement<ul><li>Coordinate with outside counsel on IP litigation matters, including patent disputes and enforcement actions</li><li>Develop and implement IP enforcement strategies to protect Re:Build's proprietary technologies and manufacturing processes</li></ul><h2>What you bring to the Team</h2><ul><li>Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited law school and active state bar membership in good standing</li><li>USPTO registration and minimum 8+ years of IP experience with significant in-house counsel experience preferred</li><li>Technical undergraduate degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field strongly preferred</li><li>Proven track record in patent prosecution, IP strategy development, and cross-functional collaboration</li><li>Experience with engineering and manufacturing industry IP issues, export controls, and government contracting preferred</li><li>Strong business acumen with ability to align IP strategy with commercial objectives and risk tolerance</li><li>Excellent communication skills for interfacing with technical teams, executives, and external counsel</li><li>Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities where AI can streamline processes, improve decision-making, and drive business outcomes</li></ul>Salary range: $200K-225K plus Bonus and Long-Term Incentive PlanThe BIG payoffWe are a company who is going to make a difference in the industries and the communities in which we choose to operate.Every employee of Re:Build will share ownership in the company and will share in the financial rewards of the success we achieve together, at all levels of the company!We want to work with people that reflect the communities in which we operate Re:Build Manufacturing is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
