You’ll lead a cross-functional team of engineers driving cable development, ensuring that design, fabrication, and testing milestones are met on schedule and to specification. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership. You’ll set direction, motivate the team, and ensure VEIR’s cable assemblies meet ambitious performance, reliability, and scalability goals. You’ll act as the “coach” of the cable assembly team, ensuring the right people are working on the right problems, aligning resources, and guiding the technical path forward for VEIR’s core cable technology. While not all team members will report to you directly, you’ll be accountable for ensuring that the cable assembly team executes effectively, collaborates well across disciplines, and delivers on VEIR’s mission. In Your First 3–6 Months, You Will <ul><li>Gain a deep understanding of VEIR’s cable assembly design, superconducting materials, and manufacturing processes. </li><li>Apply your technical expertise in superconducting and electrical systems to guide design decisions, identify risks, and support problem-solving during active builds. </li><li>Flex your leadership and coaching skills to motivate and align a high-performing team of engineers, creating clarity around goals and instilling a culture of accountability and technical excellence. </li><li>Establish strong cross-functional relationships with teams in cryogenics, mechanical design, systems integration, and testing. </li><li>Define key deliverables, schedules, and technical milestones for each product line’s cable assembly, balancing short-term progress with long-term scalability. </li><li>Assess team structure, resource allocation, and workflows to identify opportunities for improved execution efficiency. </li><li>Lead technical design reviews and discussions, helping the team converge on innovative, manufacturable, and reliable solutions. </li></ul>In Your First Year, You Will <ul><li>Own the overall technical plan and roadmap for cable assembly development across all product lines. </li><li>Lead the cross-functional cable assembly team to deliver high-quality cable builds that meet performance, safety, and reliability targets. </li><li>Implement engineering best practices, documentation standards, and testing protocols. </li><li>Partner closely with program management to ensure team goals align with broader company priorities. </li><li>Mentor and coach engineers, fostering growth, accountability, and collaboration within the team. </li><li>Identify and de-risk critical technical challenges in conductor design and integration. </li></ul>To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Need <ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering (Ph.D. or Applied Superconductivity focus a plus). </li><li>8+ years of engineering experience developing complex hardware systems or components. </li><li>Deep understanding of superconducting materials, cryogenic systems, and high, medium and low voltage electrical systems. </li><li>Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams or technical programs. </li><li>Strong organizational and project management skills — able to prioritize and balance multiple projects and timelines. </li><li>Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills. </li><li>A hands-on, resourceful approach — able to connect strategic technical vision with day-to-day execution. </li></ul>VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. VEIR&rsquo;s new generation of superconducting electric transmission lines operate with negligible losses at much higher currents than conventional lines and other advanced conductors. The result is transmission of 5-10x more power than conventional lines at a given voltage level. VEIR reduces the space needed to transmit power, maximizes the transfer capabilities in existing corridors, and reduces requirements for new corridors.
