This group leads the design, implementation, and optimization of the control architectures, instrumentation, and automation that support VEIR’s cryogenic infrastructure and superconducting cable systems.</div><div> </div><div>As a Principal Instrumentation &amp; Controls Engineer at VEIR, you will serve as one of the technical leaders responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing the control systems that power our cryogenic infrastructure and superconducting cable technology. You will own complex system-level design decisions, guide the development of advanced instrumentation and automation capabilities, and ensure our cryogenic processes operate with precision, reliability, and safety. In this role, you will shape VEIR’s control strategies across multiple product platforms, lead integration efforts with internal teams and external partners, and play a critical role in enabling the performance, scalability, and commercialization of VEIR’s technology.</div></div><p><strong>What You'll Do</strong></p><ul><li>Design, create, and update control and automation programs for VEIR’s cryogenic infrastructure and cables systems.</li><li>Build and integrate sensors and instrumentation to monitor and control cryogenic process experiments.</li><li>Design and build control panels and electrical circuits for cryogenic delivery systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation.</li><li>Model and simulate cryogenic processes and develop corresponding process control algorithms.</li><li>Create network and electrical diagrams, control specifications, and algorithms for both subsystems and the overall system.</li><li>Manage third-party software and electrical contractors to implement control system designs and ensure seamless integration.</li><li>Specify, install, and manage piping, valving, and fittings for cryogenic experiments, as well as operate and direct testbeds for process validation. </li></ul><p><strong>Skills You Have</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Controls and Industrial Engineering.</li><li>Skilled in using LabVIEW for standalone and real-time systems for control and data acquisition.</li><li>You have experience with testing and validation against specification.</li><li>Proficient in PLC structured text and ladder logic programming, with experience in developing control panels and understanding electrical circuit drawings.</li><li>Experience in piping sizing, fabrication, and installation for cryogenic systems.</li><li>Basic electrical wiring and circuit troubleshooting skills, ensuring operational safety.</li><li>Capable of creating electrical circuit drawings, pinouts, and system diagrams, along with troubleshooting industrial communication protocols (Serial, OPC3, Profinet, EtherCAT).</li><li>Experience with cryogenic systems and process dynamics</li><li>Knowledge of programming languages for DAQ systems and experience in remote monitoring technologies.</li><li>Knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and real-time error-tolerant communication systems for monitoring and controlling cryogenic systems. </li></ul><p><strong>Who You Are</strong></p><ul><li>You have 12+ years of senior-level experience designing, implementing, and supporting instrumentation and control systems for advanced hardware or industrial processes.</li><li>You possess strong technical skills and an eye for detail, allowing you to troubleshoot, design, and optimize control systems for complex cryogenic processes.</li><li>You are skilled in integrating sensors and developing control programs to monitor and optimize experimental setups.</li><li>You are passionate about solving complex challenges related to cryogenic systems and optimizing system performance.  </li><li>You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.</li><li>You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving</li><li>You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize </li><li>You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines    </li><li>You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions    </li><li>You are committed to buying into VEIR’s mission and goals, and adopting our core values </li></ul><p>VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. <p>VEIR&rsquo;s new generation of superconducting electric transmission lines operate with negligible losses at much higher currents than conventional lines and other advanced conductors.
