Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions, and takes action to resolve.<h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Perform transmission planning steady-state power flow studies with PSSE and TARA software.</li><li>Determine causes of criteria violations and develops efficient solutions and upgrades to solve them.</li><li>Build and update models of the existing and future transmission system.</li><li>Interacts with personnel in numerous internal departments to achieve and implement transmission planning projects and goals.</li><li>Support other internal departments in transmission planning related issues and questions.</li><li>Provide representation for Duke Energy on industry led activities.  This will include work with regulatory groups (SERC, NERC) to ensure our processes are in alignment with regulatory requirements.</li><li>Perform coordination with account managers and developers of large load facilities seeking interconnection to the Duke Energy Carolinas transmission system to ensure accurate model data for system impact studies. </li><li>Coordinate with other transmission groups to ensure transmission planning models are kept updated and standards enforced.</li><li>Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility. </li><li>Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives</li><li>Prepares thorough and accurate studies, technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity. </li><li>Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems. </li><li>Possesses and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity. </li><li>Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
