Reporting to the Director of Stack Development, you will focus on developing and qualifying advanced materials for Invinity’s next-generation vanadium flow battery stacks. Your expertise in electrodes, bipolar plates, ion exchange membranes, and polymer materials will be critical to improving performance, durability, and manufacturability.</div><br><br><h3>Responsibilities:</h3><ul><li>Develop and qualify materials for electrodes, bipolar plates, ion exchange membranes, and polymer components in flow battery stacks.</li><li>Interpret analytical data from material evaluation techniques, including DMA, DSC, mechanical testing, and porosity testing.</li><li>Develop understanding of material properties on performance, degradation mechanisms, and lifetime performance.</li><li>Generate material characterization datasets for product design &amp; process capability.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing engineering, and supplier quality to integrate materials into commercial products.</li><li>Support supplier identification and qualification and material specification documentation. Participate in material supplier PPAP activities.</li><li>Contribute to failure investigations and root cause analysis for material-related issues.</li><li>Maintain accurate records and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.</li></ul><h3>Requirements:</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.</li><li>4–7 years of experience in materials development and characterization, preferably in energy storage, flow batteries, or electrochemical systems.</li><li>Strong knowledge of composites, polymer materials, and coatings.</li><li>Define material defect criteria and ensure alignment with DFMEA and quality standards.</li><li>Familiarity with electrodes, bipolar plates, and ion exchange membranes.</li><li>Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation of material behavior.</li><li>Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.</li></ul><h3>Assets:</h3><ul><li>Experience with flow batteries, fuel cells, or similar electrochemical systems.</li><li>Experience with PLM systems and documentation standards.</li><li>Experience in specifying roll good materials.</li><li>Knowledge of material supply chains and manufacturing processes.</li><li>Project management experience.</li><li>Hands-on skills in lab setup, sample preparation, and test jig assembly.</li></ul><br><div>If you are passionate about materials science, eager to innovate, and motivated by making a difference in the world, consider joining us.
