With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>You will support the development of the high voltage battery charger for Joby’s pioneering S4 eVTOL aircraft. Playing a key role in a small, fast-moving team, your work will impact this safety critical system that involves the integration of various electromechanical components. The Battery Ground Support Equipment (BGSE) system functions to charge the batteries, thermally conditioning the batteries (heating and cooling), and offloading flight data and uploading it.</p><p>The successful Engineer will develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test procedures for the BGSE embedded software on the equipment necessary to prepare the batteries for its next flight. </p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Conduct functional, performance, regression, and stress testing of embedded software components.</li> <li>Identify, document, and track software defects and work closely with the development team to ensure timely resolution.</li> <li>Design and implement automated test scripts and work with existing frameworks (e.g., Python, C/C++) for continuous integration and testing.</li> <li>Develop, configure and maintain test environments, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulators, and other specialized test equipment.</li> <li>Analyze system requirements and specifications to ensure test coverage is complete and accurate.</li> <li>Participate in design and code reviews to provide input on testability and quality.</li> <li>Maintain and update documentation related to testing processes, tools, and results.</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, systems engineering, and operations personnel.</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field and 4+ years of experience in embedded software testing or verification. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.</li> <li>Strong proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python) and experience with C/C++ for embedded systems.</li> <li>Proven experience with test methodologies, test planning, and defect tracking tools.</li> <li>Familiarity with communication protocols commonly used in embedded systems (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, UART).</li> <li>Experience setting up and troubleshooting complex test setups preferably involving physical hardware and measurement equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies).</li> <li>Solid understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS).</li> <li>Must be available for potential US and international travel to support BGSE installations.</li> <li>Experience working in an agile or fast-paced development environment.</li> <li>Ability to lift 25 pounds and work in potentially noisy environments.</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Knowledge of electric vehicle (EV) battery systems, battery management systems (BMS), and charging standards (e.g., CCS, CHAdeMO, relevant industrial standards).</li> <li>Familiarity with communication protocols commonly used in embedded systems (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, UART).</li> <li>Experience testing BGSE or similar high-voltage systems.</li> <li>Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing platforms.</li> <li>Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).</li> <li>Knowledge of Ethernet/UDP networking.</li> <li>Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Please still apply if you don’t meet all items in the desired section! The target base pay for this position is $118,000 - $173,700/yr The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
