Job Description

Aspiration is in the business of fighting the climate crisis. We help people and businesses build sustainable impact into what they do every day by making it easy, automated, and powerful -- whether it is in the ways people spend and save their money or the ways businesses engage their customers and employees. The estimated cumulative climate impact of the Aspiration community thus far is the equivalent of taking every car in the state of Wyoming off the road for a year. Aspiration is a certified B Corporation and, in fact, has been named to the “Best for the World” list of the top five percent of highest scored certified B Corporations four years in a row. Aspiration has raised over $550M in funding to date and is growing quickly.
Aspiration Values
Action: We take initiative. We are doers, not bystanders.
Boldness: We don’t tinker, we transform.
Customer-Centered: Our customers are at the core of our business. Delivering for them is our North Star.
Diligence & Dedication: We do what we say we’re going to do, when we say we’re going to do it.
Entrepreneurial: Act like an entrepreneur not an employee, generate results for the company and customers everyday.
As a virtual-first company, there is no preference to location in the United States. Be part of building an innovative and inclusive financial future.

What You'll Do

  • Build high performant, highly scalable, complex, and distributed systems – end to end.
  • Bring forth new technologies and their implementation in our products, providing relevant ideas and suggestions to Product Owners.
  • Develop a strong infrastructure, databases, and applications, specifically in designing, coding, operating, and supporting high-performance, highly available services, and infrastructure.
  • Prepare technical documentation for end-users and internal customer solution developers.
  • Review our legacy architecture and improve the design patterns by making the next-level technical design decisions that further define the product architecture.
  • Produce well-written specifications that document the design decisions and outline the functional and non-functional requirements for a release.
  • Build an efficient infrastructure and tooling to accelerate our research-to-product efforts and to enable efficient cloud-based deployment.
  • Share technical solutions with the team through design review, code review, proofs-of-concept, and show and tell.
  • Support the feasibility of projects through quick prototyping with respect to performance, quality, time, and cost.
  • Articulate clean, scalable, modular, secure, well-structured and testable code.
  • Design and implement microservices-based applications with thoughtfully defined APIs with CI and CD tools and processes.
  • Communicate and shares architectural decisions, roadblocks and timelines.
  • Follow all industry best practices and standards for Agile/Scrum Frameworks adopted by the Organization including but not limited to daily stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, sprint reviews, demos, and analytics via systems (JIRA) administration to directly support initiatives set by Product Management and the Organization at large.

What You'll Bring

  • You have a long track record of implementing clean, performant, scalable service designs and implementations across a number of organizations.
  • You are a master, hands-on, code craftsperson, who has a wealth of experience 1) designing and implementing many new projects, in several different languages and frameworks, 2) fixed many incomplete / broken existing implementations.
  • You are a life-long lover of writing production code.
  • You love to mentor less experienced engineers, and you experience great joy where others undergo significant growth because of your help.
  • You love to achieve master craftsperson status on a language that you're new to, and you have a plan on how to do that.
  • You are never satisfied that you found the "right answer" -- you are always eager to improve and find better ways to implement.
  • You love designing at all scales, from small code changes, to systems, and love coding shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers of all levels of skill and experience.
  • Aspiration's services are (mostly) written in Go + PostgreSQL so experience in Go, and/or its progenitors C/C++ is preferred. Absent that, we love experienced polyglots.

What You'll Get

  • Making an impact for a company with a mission of transforming the financial industry and the lives of millions
  • Diverse & inclusive culture
  • Competitive salary and equity incentives
  • Robust healthcare plans and 401K
  • Unlimited vacation time
