We look for leaders who care deeply about people, create clarity in ambiguous environments, and help teams deliver reliable software without unnecessary process.</p><h2>The Role</h2><p>We’re hiring a <strong>mid-level Engineering Manager</strong> to support the growth of our Engineering organization. This is a newly created role, designed to split management responsibilities as the team scales.</p><p>You’ll manage a cross-functional team of <strong>Frontend Engineers, Backend Engineers, and Quality Engineers</strong>, with a strong focus on <strong>predictable delivery, team health, and execution quality</strong>. You’ll partner closely with Tech Leads, Product Managers, and the Engineering Director to ensure the team ships reliably while continuing to improve how we work.</p><p>This role is <strong>people-first</strong>, but not hands-off. You’ll spend up to <strong>40% of your time contributing code</strong> in non-critical-path areas (e.g. vulnerability patches, upgrades, maintenance work), and the rest focused on leadership, delivery, and team development.</p><p>This is a fully remote role, hiring <strong>out of Brazil</strong>, and requires strong English communication skills.</p><h2>What You’ll Do</h2><h3>People &amp; Team Leadership</h3><ul><li>Manage and support a team of engineers across frontend, backend, and quality disciplines</li><li>Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development for your direct reports</li><li>Foster a healthy, inclusive, and psychologically safe team environment</li><li>Maintain regular 1:1s, provide actionable feedback, and support individual growth</li></ul><h3>Delivery &amp; Execution</h3><ul><li>Own execution and delivery for projects led by your team</li><li>Partner with Tech Leads to ensure plans are realistic, risks are visible, and work is well-sequenced</li><li>Drive predictable delivery while balancing quality, scope, and team sustainability</li><li>Be accountable for team-level <strong>OKRs</strong> and delivery outcomes</li></ul><h3>Technical Contribution (Hands-On)</h3><ul><li>Contribute code up to ~40% of your time, primarily in:<ul><li>Vulnerability updates and dependency upgrades</li><li>Maintenance and system hygiene work</li><li>Non-critical-path production code</li></ul></li><li>Be technically credible and able to review designs and pull requests, without acting as the primary technical decision-maker</li></ul><h3>Cross-Functional Collaboration</h3><ul><li>Work closely with Product Managers on capacity planning, prioritization, and delivery tradeoffs</li><li>Participate in product discovery alongside Product and Design</li><li>Communicate clearly with stakeholders about progress, risks, and timelines</li></ul><h3>Process &amp; Improvement</h3><ul><li>Own and support <strong>SOC 2 compliance activities</strong> relevant to your team</li><li>Identify delivery, quality, or communication challenges and experiment with process improvements</li><li>Evolve team processes pragmatically, in alignment with the Engineering Director</li><li>Help reduce tech debt and improve known friction points in how the team operates</li></ul><h2>Required Qualifications</h2><ul><li>Prior experience as an <strong>Engineering Manager</strong> managing software engineers</li><li>Experience leading <strong>cross-functional engineering teams</strong></li><li>Strong people leadership skills, with a focus on team health and sustainable delivery</li><li>Comfort working in <strong>early-stage or scaling environments</strong> with high ambiguity</li><li>Enough technical depth to contribute code, review work, and partner effectively with Tech Leads</li><li>Experience owning delivery, hiring, and performance management</li><li>Strong written and verbal <strong>English</strong> communication skills</li><li>Experience working effectively with <strong>remote teams</strong></li></ul><h2>Nice to Have</h2><ul><li>Experience managing frontend, backend, and QA roles together</li><li>Experience in SaaS or enterprise software environments</li><li>Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as <strong>SOC 2</strong></li><li>Prior experience scaling teams or reducing manager span of control</li><li>Background as a software engineer before moving into management</li></ul>
