Job Description  The intern will support the Illinois and Michigan policy and advocacy work by developing a quote bank drawn from regulatory filings, agency reports, expert testimony, whitepapers, or other primary sources related to key advanced energy issues. The intern will create an internal resource used to support legislative advocacy, regulatory comments, testimony, and stakeholder education.   Key Responsibilities <ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Review and analyze primary source, regulatory or executive documents, including:  </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Utility or state energy-related plans; </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Public utility commission orders and staff reports, or other agency reports; </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">And legislative testimony or agency filings. </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Catalog verbatim quotes relevant to key policy themes with full citations and brief contextual summaries explaining how each quote is used. </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Identify recurring arguments, themes, and framing used by utilities, regulators, and other stakeholders.  </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Prepare a final presentation summarizing key findings and patterns. </li></ul>Interns will work a hybrid schedule and therefore must be located in the DC, MD, VA area for the summer, a commutable distance to our DC office. A final project will be due from each intern and presented to the organization at the end of the program.  Required Skills  <ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Reading comprehension and ability synthesize complex written material </li></ul><ul style=""><li style="font-size:12pt;margin:3px 0px;letter-spacing:0.25px;line-height:1.6;">Ability to manage document-heavy work </li></ul> Preferred Skills  Detail-oriented; intellectually curious; strong written and oral communication skills; and interest in advanced energy and/or public policy career   Special Application Instructions   To be considered for this internship, please submit a resume and cover letter expressing why this opportunity and organization interests you.         Dates: 6/15-8/14     Location: DC  (Hybrid)  Hours: 40 hours per week     Compensation: $18.00/hr   Advanced Energy United is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, sex, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws, regulations or ordinances.
