As part of Sensata’s strategic growth in the data center segment, the Applications Engineer will focus on electrical protection, power distribution, and rack-level power systems. This role interfaces directly with hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center customers to deliver high-performance solutions that address increasing rack densities, evolving power architectures, and energy efficiency demands.General Responsibilities • Utilizes advanced knowledge of engineering principles &amp; practices in the design, development, analysis and release of products throughout the product life cycle • Present in regular meetings with customers to provide an emphasis on technical problem solving. Supports existing customers on new product development projects under development • Communicate business and technical information between the customer and Sensata • Develop and maintain an in-depth technical understanding of Sensata’s products and competitor product offerings • Leads design review sessions, both customer and internal, as required; this includes conducting drawing and specification reviews with customers • Leads failure analysis examinations and prepare failure analysis reports of findings • Ensure projects meet customer requirements and quality standards • Perform engineering analyses. Review product specifications and utilize computer aided engineering applications to apply conditions, replicate performance, and evaluate the manufacturability of products • Help develop and refine 'standard' product configurations that capitalize on the company's strengths and products. Provide onsite technical assistance to the sales team at industry trade shows and customer demonstrations • Negotiate technical specifications • Respond to requests for proposals and assist in the preparation of quotations for standard and custom products • Establish and maintain customer engineering relations Experience / Qualifications • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience. • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) • Strong interpersonal &amp; collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customersAdditional Responsibilities<ul><li>Lead technical engagement with data center customers, focusing on rack-level electrical protection, power conversion, and distribution systems.</li><li>Support product integration of Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Power Supply Units (PSUs), Battery Backup Units (BBUs), and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) sidecar racks.</li><li>Translate customer requirements into technical specifications for circuit breakers, contactors, solid-state relays, and energy storage interfaces.</li><li>Conduct design reviews and failure analysis for UL489, UL62368, and CE-certified components used in rack power systems</li><li>Collaborate with engineering and product teams to develop customized electrical protection solutions for high-density racks, including HVDC architectures.</li><li>Provide technical support during trade shows and customer demos, showcasing Sensata’s capabilities in energy storage, rack-level power management and electrical safety.</li><li>Assist in proposal development and quotations for standard and custom electrical products tailored to data center rack environments.</li></ul>Additional Experience/ Skills Preferred:In addition to core qualifications, the following would be a plus for candidates focused on energy storage, electrical and rack power systems:<ul><li>Experience with data center electrical architectures, including single-line and 5-line diagrams</li><li>Familiarity with rack-level power distribution and modular power systems (e.g., sidecar racks, busway systems, remote power panels)</li><li>Knowledge of HVDC systems, especially in retrofit applications for hyperscale data centers</li><li>Understanding of power usage effectiveness (PUE) and energy efficiency metrics in data center environments</li><li>Experience with certification standards such as UL489, UL62368, CE, and AEC-Q200</li><li>Exposure to AI compute workloads and their impact on rack power density and electrical protection needs</li><li>Ability to travel international or domestic.</li></ul>Equipment Familiarity Preferred:Candidates should be comfortable analyzing specifications to support :<ul><li>Circuit Breakers (UL489, magnetic-hydraulic, solid-state)</li><li>Contactors (1000Vdc, 100–500A, UL62368)</li><li>Solid-State Relays (SSR) for high-efficiency switching</li><li>Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Remote Power Panels (RPPs)</li><li>Battery Backup Units (BBUs) and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)</li><li>Busway Systems and rack-level HVDC conversion modules</li><li>Energy Storage Systems for peak shaving and microgrid integration</li></ul>Why Sensata?Join a global leader in sensor and electrical protection technologies, where innovation drives our mission to enable smarter, safer, and more efficient systems.
