This includes electrical component engineering tasks of identifying and qualifying alternates to end-of-life materials, responding to quality issues and driving resolution, and technical assessments of new and existing suppliers targeted at improving processes at the supplier to reduce cost, handling, and defect rates. The role will be active during new product development phases to assist design engineering in design for manufacturability and identifying appropriate suppliers to support design efforts, ideally becoming effective production suppliers. The position reports into the Manufacturing Engineering organization as part of the technical support team, will have strong relationships with Materials for supplier management and parts availability, and will work with Quality for product performance.Primary Job Duties &amp; Responsibilities:<ul><li>Respond to electrical component availability/end of life issues and identify and qualify alternates.</li><li>Assist in the troubleshooting material/component issues in Production.</li><li>Maintain component bill-of-material (BOM) lists in BOM manager software and react to Product Change Notices (PCNs).</li><li>Review/analyze production material failures and make dispositions in Material Review Board (MRB). </li><li>Monitor material failures and trends and seek/develop corrective action plans.</li><li>Update documentation when needed to provide necessary detail to suppliers.</li><li>Participate in supplier evaluation, recommending new suppliers when required.</li><li>Compile and analyze incoming inspection and in-process statistical data to evaluate supplier performance and recommend improvements or corrective actions.</li><li>Identify, request and analyze relevant supplier provided data.</li><li>Perform supplier audits as required to review performance and communicate plans for ongoing improvement.</li><li>Prioritize suppliers and incoming parts that require improvement and develop action plans that will drive the desired improvements.</li><li>Work with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering during new product development to assist in defining plans for new parts and suppliers that will support the effective launch into production.</li><li>Work with engineering and manufacturing engineering to review specifications for manufacturability and quality improvement related issues.</li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and departments involved with the relationship.</li><li>Provide input to internal test and inspection processes, procedures, equipment and standards.</li><li>Review all relevant Quality System documentation to ensure compliance to AS9100 standards. </li><li>Assist suppliers in the identification of absolute root cause and correction of quality and delivery issues.</li><li>Use the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process to formalize the communication of corrective action with suppliers, follow-up on actions taken to ensure that results support the plan for improvement.</li></ul>Job Qualifications:<ul><li> BS or MS in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.</li><li> Minimum of 5 + years of experience in Electrical Design or Component Engineering required.</li><li>Supplier quality experience a strong plus.</li><li>Able and willing to travel approximately 5%, as needed.  </li><li>Effective interpersonal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to plan and organize workload under minimum supervision.</li></ul>Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.About Teledyne FLIR DefenseJoin Teledyne FLIR Defense, where we're dedicated to supporting critical missions with an exciting range of cutting-edge technologies.
