Key Responsibilities:1. Structural Design &amp; Analysis<ul><li>Lead the structural design and analysis of bridges and other transportation structures (e.g., viaducts, culverts, retaining walls).</li><li>Perform advanced structural calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, STAAD, etc.).</li><li>Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design drawings and specifications.</li><li>Evaluate structural systems for safety, durability, constructability, and cost-efficiency.</li><li>Carry out design checks, peer reviews, and value engineering exercises.</li></ul>2. Codes, Standards &amp; Technical Compliance<ul><li>Apply relevant international and local design standards such as AASHTO LRFD, Eurocode, BS Standards, or DPWH Bridge Design Manuals.</li><li>Ensure documentation complies with quality assurance procedures and audit requirements.</li><li>Keep up to date with evolving engineering technologies, materials, and regulatory changes.</li></ul>3. Project &amp; Design Management<ul><li>Lead and coordinate design activities across multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, highway, hydraulics, architecture, etc.).</li><li>Prepare design schedules, work plans, and resource estimates.</li><li>Support preparation of project proposals, technical reports, feasibility studies, and tender documents.</li><li>Monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure deliverables meet scope, budget, and timelines.</li></ul>4. Construction Support &amp; Site Engineering<ul><li>Provide technical support during construction, including shop drawing review, RFI responses, and site inspections.</li><li>Assess construction methodologies for structural feasibility and safety.</li><li>Resolve engineering challenges encountered during construction.</li></ul>5. Structural Assessment &amp; Rehabilitation<ul><li>Conduct condition assessments, structural evaluations, and load rating analyses for existing bridges.</li><li>Develop repair, strengthening, and retrofit strategies for aging or damaged infrastructure.</li><li>Utilize structural health monitoring (SHM) data where applicable.</li></ul>6. Leadership, Mentoring &amp; Quality Assurance<ul><li>Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and mid-level engineers.</li><li>Conduct internal technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions.</li><li>Serve as a subject-matter expert in structural engineering and bridge design.</li></ul>7. Stakeholder Engagement<ul><li>Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies, and partners.</li><li>Present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.</li><li>Attend coordination meetings, design reviews, and project workshops.</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).</li><li>Licensed/registered Civil Engineer</li><li>8+ years of experience in bridge or structural engineering design.</li><li>Strong proficiency in structural software (e.g., MIDAS, STAAD).</li><li>Solid understanding of geotechnical principles, materials engineering, and construction methods.</li><li>Excellent technical writing, communication, and coordination skills.</li></ul>About SMEC For 75 years, SMEC has built a reputation as a trusted partner on major transport and energy infrastructure projects around the world.
