Reporting to the Project Engineer, the Plant Operator has an “all-round” operator role, managing and assisting all unit operations in High Temperature Metal Recovery (HTMR). You will gain hands-on experience producing a zinc oxide product in GFL's Hamilton manufacturing plant. You will become familiar with health and safety, quality, and how to be successful in a team environment, developing an ability to operate all HTMR equipment and machinery.Key Accountabilities<ul><li>Manage, troubleshoot and operate the safe and reliable operation of the HTMR process under normal and abnormal conditions on a 24/7 basis.</li><li>Manage and operate equipment, machinery and accessories through process control systems</li><li>Monitor, control, record and report all activities of the process.</li><li>Maintain the HTMR process as designed/planned whenever possible.</li><li>Conduct inspection rounds to ensure that the equipment is working properly.</li><li>Prioritizes and reports deficiencies of all equipment including data collection and communication systems and conduct follow-up as required.</li><li>Ensure all safety concerns and accidents are investigated promptly.</li><li>Ensure that environmental policies and procedures are understood, and issues/incidents are investigated and addressed promptly.</li><li>Data review and analysis of production, reporting results to Production Team</li><li>Communicate and assist collecting samples and work closely with quality control</li><li>Responsible to perform a variety of manual tasks in varying temperatures for extended periods of time, which may include lifting light to heavy materials, climbing, standing, squatting, bending, and working at heights when applicable</li></ul>Education/Experience<ul><li>3-Year College Diploma in a mechanical/electrical/chemical discipline or Power Engineering (4th Class) or equivalent</li><li>Valid class G driver’s license</li><li>1-3 years of related operating experience</li><li>Proficient in computerized control panel/Human Machine Interface (HMI) and personal computer applications including Microsoft Office software.</li><li>Required ability to read, interpret and utilize technical prints and schematics</li></ul>Skills/Abilities/Competencies<ul><li>To make decisions quickly and decisively during periods of high activity and stress.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deal with co-workers and other authorities</li><li>Proficient in maintaining operational logs, writing reports including deficiency and follow-up</li></ul>Working Schedule/Conditions<ul><li>Operation is a 24/7 basis shift structure. Ability to support on nights and weekends,</li><li>This position is primarily performed inside an industrial processing building and control room.</li><li>May be exposed to environmental conditions such as: hot, cold, dirt, dust, wet or noise</li><li>You must be able to work independently and as part of a larger team environment</li><li>You must be able to communicate in English both verbally and electronically</li></ul>This is a safety sensitive position.
