AECOM’s Ohio Buildings + Places team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-performance building systems across diverse market sectors. This hybrid role (Columbus, OH) is a senior technical leadership position for an experienced engineer who excels in complex HVAC design, cross-disciplinary coordination, and mentoring emerging talent.Our Ohio B+P practice—based in Columbus and Cleveland—is one of AECOM’s highest-performing teams, providing integrated architecture, engineering, planning, and digital delivery services. We serve public, federal, healthcare, science &amp; technology, higher education, mission critical, logistics, and commercial clients, with a strong focus on design excellence, performance, and resilience.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership &amp; Design<ul><li>Lead mechanical system design from concept through construction administration.</li><li>Serve as the mechanical discipline lead, ensuring technical quality, code compliance, and constructability.</li><li>Apply sound engineering judgment to system selection, energy performance, and lifecycle optimization.</li><li>Maintain expertise in ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, IECC, and emerging technologies.</li></ul>Project Delivery &amp; Coordination<ul><li>Produce calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.</li><li>Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty disciplines.</li><li>Lead site investigations, review submittals and RFIs, and support construction administration.</li><li>Deliver projects within defined scope, schedule, and budget.</li></ul>Team Leadership &amp; Mentorship<ul><li>Mentor and review the work of junior engineers and designers.</li><li>Provide clear, constructive technical feedback and support skill development.</li><li>Establish yourself as a trusted technical leader within the Ohio B+P team and AECOM’s US practice.</li></ul>Proposals &amp; Practice Support<ul><li>Contribute to proposals, scopes, fees, and technical narratives.</li><li>Support best practices and continuous improvement within the mechanical discipline.</li></ul>
