Job Description

Arcadia is the technology company empowering energy innovators and consumers to fight the climate crisis. Our software and APIs are revolutionizing an industry held back by outdated systems and institutions by creating unprecedented access to the data and clean energy needed to make a decarbonized energy grid possible.

In 2014, Arcadia set out on its mission to break the fossil fuel monopoly and since then we have been knocking down the institutional barriers to unlock decarbonization. To date, we have connected hundreds of thousands of consumers and small businesses with high-quality clean energy options. Fast forward to today, and now, we’re thinking even bigger. We have launched Arc, an industry-defining SaaS platform that empowers developers and energy innovators to deliver their own custom, personalized energy experiences, accelerating the transformation of the industry from an analog energy system into a digitized information network.

Tackling one of the world’s biggest challenges requires out-of-the-box thinking & diverse perspectives. We’re building a team of individuals from different backgrounds, industries, & educational experiences. If you share our passion for ushering in the era of the clean electron, we look forward to learning what you would uniquely bring to Arcadia!

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a mission-driven Senior Director of Utility Partnerships to join the Policy and Market Development team in the fight against climate change. This person will lead all of Arcadia’s engagements with utility service providers - including electric, gas, water, and waste companies - to improve the company’s business operations and expand our market opportunity. The ideal individual has extensive professional experience in the utility industry, deep knowledge of utility IT infrastructure and customer service systems, and existing relationships with utility decision-makers across the country.

The primary purpose of this position is to create and build strong working relationships with utilities related to data access, utility bill payments, tariffs/rates, and clean energy access. Success in this role would be aligning incentives between Arcadia's customers in the new energy economy and incumbent electric and gas utilities to enable seamless data sharing and rapid decarbonization

This role will report to the Vice President of Policy and Market Development. Additionally, the Senior Director of Utility Partnerships will collaborate frequently with peers on the policy team and senior leadership across the company.

Arcadia is headquartered in Washington, DC, and open to fully remote candidates.

What you'll do:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand and define the “ideal state” with utilities.

  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve the “ideal state” at specific utilities, focusing on high-priority markets first. The Senior Director will be responsible for advocating for Arcadia’s interests at specific utilities.

  • Be the face of Arcadia within the utility industry. Build and own productive and positive relationships with relevant trade associations (such as EEI, AGA, and NAWC) and represent Arcadia at relevant trade shows (such as Distributech and CS Week).

  • Lead the creation of thought leadership materials in coordination with Arcadia colleagues. Examples include white papers, blog posts, videos, and social media content that advance Arcadia’s objectives.

  • Identify, hire, and manage consultants to help with specific utilities or issues.

What will help you succeed:

Must-haves:

  • A thorough understanding of how utilities serve their customers, including customer information system capabilities, contact center operations, and privacy and security practices and policies.

  • Relationships with multiple utilities, ideally developed in a business development setting or similar.

  • An excitement and ability to go deep on Arcadia’s technology. The Senior Director has to understand what we do at a very technical level.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A team-first mindset. This is not a job for a lone wolf, and will require daily - even hourly - collaboration with colleagues across the company.

  • A dedication to Arcadia’s values, including celebrating a diverse set of backgrounds, bringing clean energy to underserved communities, and fighting climate change.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Ten years of experience in the energy and utility industry.

  • Experience in policy or consulting roles.

  • Direct employment experience at a utility or utility association.

Benefits:

  • "Remote first" culture - work anywhere in the US as long as you have a reliable internet connection

  • Flexible PTO - no accrued hours and no limit on the number of vacation days employees can take each year

  • 15 annual company-wide holidays including a week long "summer break"

  • 10 days sick leave

  • Up to 4 weeks bereavement leave

  • 2 volunteer days off

  • 2 professional development days off

  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for all parents

  • Weekly "flex time" - no internal meetings on Tuesdays and Friday afternoons

  • 80-95% employer cost coverage for medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and dependents

  • Annual budget to use on conferences, books, classes, workshops or anything that contributes to professional development

Eliminating carbon footprints, eliminating carbon copies.
