In this role, you will collaborate across engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-quality, factory-ready products that meet utility, industry, and internal standards.<div></div>Core Responsibilities<ul><li>Design, implement, and test embedded firmware for battery-operated RF AMI and metering products.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, test, analytics, and system software) to ensure seamless integration and performance.</li><li>Optimize firmware for power consumption, memory usage, and overall system efficiency in resource-constrained environments.</li><li>Develop and maintain testing frameworks, tools, and scripts (e.g., Python, C#, xUnit, Ceedling) to support validation and performance analysis.</li><li>Support hardware design activities, including circuit design, PCB layout, and microcontroller configuration.</li><li>Create and execute test plans and contribute to continuous integration and product validation efforts.</li><li>Investigate field returns and partner with quality teams to identify root causes and drive product improvements.</li><li>Contribute to technical documentation, system specifications, and firmware architecture improvements to support scalability and sustainability.</li></ul><div></div>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science</li><li>3-5 years’ experience developing embedded systems or embedded OS solutions.</li><li>Strong programming experience in C for microcontrollers in resource-constrained environments (memory, power, performance).</li><li>Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).</li><li>Proven ability to test, debug, and troubleshoot at both firmware and board level using lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).</li><li>Experience developing PC-based tools or scripts for testing, automation, or data analysis.</li><li>Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.</li><li>Fluency in English (written and verbal).</li></ul><div></div>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>5+ years of experience in embedded systems or firmware development.</li><li>Experience working with high-volume or utility metering products.</li><li>Experience optimizing firmware for low power consumption, memory usage, and performance.</li><li>Experience with MSP430 or ARM Cortex-M architectures.</li><li>Experience writing assembly language in addition to C for microcontrollers.</li><li>Experience developing system specifications, product requirements, and prototype test plans.</li><li>Familiarity with RF systems, AMI technologies, or IoT-connected devices.</li><li>Experience contributing to firmware architecture improvements and development process enhancements.</li></ul>Additional Information<ul><li>Work Environment: Combination of office and engineering lab environment with embedded systems and test equipment.</li><li>Physical Demands: Ability to work with electronic hardware and computers for extended periods.</li><li>Travel Requirements: Minimal travel as needed for collaboration or product support activities.</li></ul>Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use.
