We operate as an idea meritocracy in which the best ideas change the company’s direction on a regular basis.</p>About the Job<p>Our core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean’s harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention.</p><p>Once our nodes leave the manufacturing facility, they must be deployed, operated, and maintained safely and reliably across vast oceanic regions—all at an unprecedented scale and reduced cost. As Offshore Lead, you will provide boots on the ground leadership for these operations.</p><p>Leaders who enjoy working alongside engineering teams to perfect new operations will thrive in this role. We are organized as a public benefit corporation and are backed by leading venture capital firms, private investors, philanthropic investors, and endowments.</p><p>We strive to be the best team on the planet and we compensate our team accordingly. </p>Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide leadership for offshore operations including load outs, wet towage, deployments, recoveries, moorings, and various test campaigns </li><li>People manager for small team of technicians who perform offshore operations </li><li>Coordinate efforts of critical vendors including vessel operators, ports, equipment operators, divers, etc.  </li><li>Work alongside engineering to commission and test new equipment utilized for offshore operations </li><li>Collaborate with engineering to improve existing and develop new means for offshore operations </li><li>Work with leadership to build and grow offshore team structure </li><li>Oversee maintenance of owned equipment </li><li>Interface with regulators as required (USCG, ABS, etc.)</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>5+ years as Master in offshore towing operations</li><li>Experience with ocean towing and towing vessels</li><li>Ability to travel up to 50% offshore </li><li>Demonstrated record of developing and promoting a culture of safety within organizations</li></ul>Desired Qualifications<ul><li>Experience directing complex offshore operations (i.e. executing a new operation for the first time)  </li><li>Experience collaborating with engineering groups </li><li>Relevant maritime education / certifications as applicable </li></ul>Schedule &amp; Availability<ul><li>This position is based on a rotational offshore schedule, working long shifts while offshore to support 24/7 operations.</li><li>While on hitch, you should expect 12-hour days, seven days per week, in a dynamic offshore environment.</li><li>When off hitch, you are expected to work remotely to lead planning, lessons-learned reviews, vessel/readiness preparation, and cross-functional coordination.</li><li>The Offshore Lead is a frontline leadership role; flexibility for weather, vessel availability, and mission timelines is required.</li></ul>Compensation and Benefits<p>If hired for this full-time role, you will receive:</p><ul><li>Cash compensation of $180,000 - $230,000.</li><li>Equity in the company. Exceptional remote candidates will be considered with regular travel to our offices. Our offices, lab, and shop are located in <strong><em>Portland, Oregon</em></strong>.</p><p> </p>
