With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate individual with composite and metallic design experience to join our airframe structures design team. In this role you will be responsible for the development &amp; detailed designs of structural airframe components. </p><p> </p><p>You will be deeply involved in everything from preliminary concept work through production support. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of CAD design and is able to do hand calculations and create detailed models and drawings. If you also have hands-on experience with composite fabrication or machining metal parts - this could be the ideal position for you! Further, you will work collaboratively across our electronics, wiring systems, structural analysis, and manufacturing teams.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Design lightweight composite/metallic structural aircraft components</li> <li>Perform initial layout and sizing</li> <li>Fastener sizing, bond area sizing, and riveting</li> <li>Composite &lt;-&gt; metallic material compatibility, and galvanic corrosion</li> <li>Detailed drawing creation, and GD&amp;T</li> <li>Direct communication with vendors and technicians for manufacturing</li> <li>Consult frequently with team leads</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>2+ years of industry work experience (can include internships, university clubs, team programs, and full-time positions)</li> <li>B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or relevant field of study</li> <li>Experience with composite and metallic component/structural design and analysis</li> <li>Excellent problem solving and communication skills</li> <li>Understanding of static and structural hand-calculations</li> <li>Proficiency in CAD</li> <li>Experience drafting using GD&amp;T</li> <li>Experience utilizing multiple manufacturing processes, such as subtractive, additive, carbon fiber composite lay-up, and injection molding</li> <li>Able to work onsite (position is based in Santa Cruz, CA)</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>M.S./Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or relevant field of study</li> <li>5+ years of working experience in relevant industry</li> <li>Experience integrating systems for aircraft</li> <li>Experience with Dassault Systemes/Catia CAD</li> <li>Proficiency in composite structures design</li> <li>Experience in composites manufacturing</li> <li>Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus)</li> <li>Aircraft homebuilding or rapid prototyping experience is a plus</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $97,600 - $162,500/yr.
