And that’s where you come in.Job Description:Job DescriptionTo produce complex Hardware Application designs/Bookwirings and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering and railway signaling principles.Key Accountabilities<ul><li>The Technical Specialist is a subject matter expert within the team and acts as a technical leader internally and with the customer.</li><li>Leads technical decision making and provides technical direction within their area of expertise and across multiple projects.  Works to resolve complex problems, in house or in the field.  </li><li>Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems.</li><li>Good understanding of SelTrac Signal Plans and SelTrac Radio equipment.</li><li>Good knowledge of Railway infrastructure and deployment of trackside and equipment room assets within greenfield and brownfield deployments. </li><li>Demonstrates an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes.</li><li>Interprets and writes Requirements that provide traceability from high level customer designs to low level detailed design elements.</li><li>Proficient in technical writing of technical design specifications, scope of works (SoWs) and requests for proposals (RFQs). </li><li>High degree of familiarity with CENELEC and AREMA standards.</li><li>Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components.</li><li>Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD). </li><li>Selects an appropriate design approach.</li><li>Maximizes the use of existing product designs.</li><li>Possesses or has the ability to gain the Hitachi Competency Management System (CMS) Designer or Principles license.</li><li>When required, perform the role of a Work Package Manager on projects, collaborating with a team of 1 to 5 Designers.</li><li>Assist with project-related tasks, such as planning timelines and tracking budgets to ensure project goals are met.</li><li>Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the SID project team.</li><li>Ensuring that all project tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements.</li><li>Ensure that all project deliverables are completed accurately and on time (as per project schedule). </li><li>Carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision.</li><li>Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department.</li><li>Intimate understanding of Hitachi Work Instructions and the Chorus process.</li></ul>Key Requirements<ul><li>Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree.</li><li>10 – 12 years of related work experience.</li><li>Proficient with the use of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration</li><li>Management, Hitachi Change Control Process (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite.</li><li>Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer.</li><li>Well-developed verbal skills in English to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums.</li><li>Well-developed writing skills in English to prepare clear effective documents.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Ability to work in a team environment.</li><li>Mentor junior or new members of the department.</li><li>Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.</li><li>Locates and researches source documentation for design activities.</li><li>Makes timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others.</li><li>Identifies problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation and suggest improvements.</li></ul>Total Compensation Range (Base Salary + Annual Incentive plan) : $119,960 - $153,795The Company provides an extensive benefits program for all full-time employees working 24 or more hours per week and their eligible dependents, including the following:<ul><li>Health, Dental and Vision plans - 100% of premiums are company-paid</li><li>Retirement Savings Plan with a company contribution and a match, and without vesting period</li><li>Company paid holidays - 3 weeks of vacation, Holiday closure, personal  emergency leave days and sick days</li><li>Maternity/Parental/Adoption top up pay</li><li>Annual Incentive plan</li><li>Company provided Life Insurance, STD and Employee Assistance Plan</li></ul>This posting relates to an existing vacancy.
