(GESI) capital planning function from Operations perspective and serve as a key business partner to Finance leadership. This role is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end capital budgeting and forecasting processes, driving deeper financial insights, establishing capital-related KPIs, and ensuring strong alignment between operational needs, business strategy and financial objectives. The ideal candidate brings foundational knowledge of environmental services industry assets (both rolling stock and stationery), advanced analytical capabilities, strong business partnership experience, and a solid understanding of both the accounting and cash-flow impacts of capital expenditures. This is a senior-level role that will play a critical part in shaping how GESI evaluates, deploys, and manages capital investment.Key Responsibilities  Capital Planning Leadership:<ul><li>Own the capital budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy, alignment, and strategic prioritization across the organization.</li><li> Lead the development of the multi-year capital investment plan, integrating operational requirements with financial objectives. </li><li>Oversee governance of capital requests, approvals, reporting, and the end-to-end capital lifecycle.</li><li>Enhance current reporting outputs to better serve various management groups across the organization.</li><li>Support the enforcement of compliance with the approved process. Including identifying data quality issues and assisting in resolving missing data</li><li>Track capital program performance against approved budgets, timelines, and scope</li><li>Monitor capital spend, commitments, and forecast variances</li><li>Support capital program reforecasting and reprioritization as business needs evolve</li><li>Partner with Finance to support capital budgeting, funding approvals, and financial reporting </li><li>Conduct return on investment (ROI/ROIC), lifecycle cost, and risk assessments </li></ul>Operations Business Partnership:<ul><li>Partner closely with Operations leadership to understand business drivers, validate capital requirements, and challenge assumptions when necessary.</li><li>Provide financial insights that help evaluate the necessity, timing, and ROI of proposed capital projects.</li><li>Facilitate cross-functional discussions to align capital investment with operational performance expectations.</li><li>Develop, track, and report capital-related KPIs, including asset utilization, ROIC, spend efficiency, and project performance metrics.</li><li>Produce monthly capital reporting packages, including actuals, forecasts, risks/opportunities, and executive commentary.</li><li>Support the Capital Committee with analysis, financial models, and business cases.</li><li>Ensure capital cash flow forecasting incorporates accurate timing of expenditures, payment terms, and vendor conditions.</li><li>Partner with Accounting to support capitalization policies, month-end processes, and reconciliation of cash vs. accrual capital spend.</li><li>Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance capital planning processes, systems, and reporting standards.</li></ul>What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)Education &amp; Experience:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>5+ years of progressive experience in FP&amp;A, capital planning, corporate finance, or related areas.</li><li>Experience partnering with Operations or supporting asset-intensive businesses is an asset.</li></ul>Technical &amp; Analytical Skills:<ul><li>Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities.</li><li>Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning frameworks.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in modeling; experience with Workday (particularly the Capital Module) is a strong asset.</li><li>Solid knowledge of IFRS accounting principles related to capital assets, depreciation, and capitalization rules.</li><li>Understanding of capital cash flow management, payment terms, and vendor financing.</li></ul>Leadership &amp; Soft Skills:<ul><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate with senior stakeholders, and drive cross-functional alignment.</li><li>Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to connect insights to broader strategy.</li><li>Strong communication and storytelling skills, especially in explaining financial concepts to non-finance audiences.</li><li>Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.</li><li>Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.</li><li> Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to process improvement.</li></ul>What We OfferWhy join us?
