About the company
Altus Thermal is rethinking one of the largest categories of energy use in the home. The potential climate change impact is tremendous: greater than 200 million tons of CO2e per year in the U.S., which is roughly 40 million cars off the road. The timing is right, as the market conditions for change are clear and growing. The company has assembled a strong technology portfolio, with multiple complementary innovations. The immediate serviceable addressable market is $900M per year, with potential expansion to well over $3B per year in the U.S. over this decade. The team currently consists of the founder (see below) and an experienced group of business and technical advisors. The company is based in Boston, though in the era of COVID-19 we will be actively looking to build a remote team and culture from Day 1. 
About the founder
It seems silly to write about myself in the third person so I’ll change it up: I’m Michael Rigney and my LinkedIn profile is <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeljrigney/">here</a>. I was pulled into doing start-ups 20-odd years ago by one of my brothers and I haven’t left. At EnerNOC, I learned first-hand how a clean energy start-up can have an impact by achieving scale.  My goal with Altus is to do the same, and through this drive tangible reductions CO2 emissions on a national and global scale. People and culture are an integral part of this journey; my goal is for Altus to be the place where we do the best work of our lives. This can only happen when we’re comfortable being ourselves and are challenging each other to deliver results and grow in the process.  
About you
You’re an experienced team leader, one that has built and led teams to achieve challenging objectives. In the early stages – and beyond – you are willing, able and excited to jump in and do the work yourself.  You have shown success in recruiting, day-to-day team management, and collaborating with your peers in other disciplines. You’re a compelling, relatable communicator, both internally and externally. Your functional expertise is in engineering, likely hardware. You’re an experienced engineering team leader, capable of assessing product development cycles, overseeing all aspects of engineering product development, coordinating across the business, interfacing with customers and suppliers on technical issues, and ensuring on-time, at-cost production of an electro-mechanical product. As a co-founder you will also regularly contribute and lead in areas such as strategy, culture, finance and administration.
With respect to years of experience / career stage, you might have 5-7+ years, honing your own skills and developing your managerial perspective. You might have 10+ years’ experience, excited to start from the beginning, perhaps for the second or third time. Or, you might have 20+ years’ experience, a seasoned start-up veteran or a mid-career professional seeking to use your skillset and accumulated knowledge to address climate change.
