With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking a motivated Staff MRB Stress Engineer to join our growing MRB (Material Review Board) Engineering team. This role is a key position as our company quickly moves towards FAA type and production certifications. This team member is expected to have a strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The individual will be responsible for dispositioning non-conformances and ensuring that all materials and components meet airworthiness requirements. Attention to detail is critical and the engineer will have experience analyzing aircraft structures, supporting aircraft builds, and both composite and metallic repairs. Prior experience in an aircraft manufacturing environment or support role is a must as you will play a key role in the scale up of Joby's high volume aircraft production line. </p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Select appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues</li> <li>Write robust dispositions with clear requirements to restore airworthiness</li> <li>Produce structural substantiation reports in support of NCR disposition</li> <li>Develop MRB work methods and tools and help build the Joby MRB system</li> <li>Monitor trends of recurring discrepancies and support root cause corrective action initiatives</li> <li>Directly communicate with quality, inspection, manufacturing engineers, and M&amp;P</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline</li> <li>8+ years of working experience in an aerospace engineering role</li> <li>Experience with the manufacture and repair of metallic and composite structures</li> <li>Aerospace MRB experience</li> <li>Proficient with CATIA V5/V6 or similar CAD program</li> <li>Excellent problem-solving skills</li> <li>Hands on experience in aircraft manufacturing facility or repair depot</li> <li>Highly proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple assignments</li> <li>Ability to travel domestically (25% or less)</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>12+ years of working experience in an aerospace engineering role</li> <li>Prior independent MRB approval authority</li> <li>Experience developing and designing aircraft structural repairs and calculating basic static stress analysis in support of the repair disposition and/or repair drawing on both metallic and composite</li> <li>In-depth understanding of loading scenarios, free body diagrams, and structural behavior of aircraft components</li> <li>Working knowledge of Polyworks and Femap/Nastran</li> <li>Experience with composite laminate fastened and bonded structure</li> <li>Hands on experience working within aircraft certification program</li> <li>Excellent understanding of FAR Part 23 and 27 regulations</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $185,300 - $254,800/yr.
