Commissioning Superintendent

This position leads the start-up, commissioning, performance testing, and troubleshooting activities at utility-scale renewable projects.   Requirements:    <ul><li>Leads and coordinates Commissioning Engineers, Technicians, Vendor Representatives, and Contractors on-site in completing all required commissioning testing for a project.</li><li>Works with Project Manager and Construction Manager to verify all test prerequisites are met before the scheduled testing, ensure all necessary resources are on-site to complete testing as designed, and jointly develop Punch List before systems are turned over to commissioning.</li><li>Observes testing in the field, ensuring all safety and work processes are followed. Answers any questions testing personnel have during the performance of tests.</li><li>Reviews all test result documentation for accuracy, completeness, and passing criteria.</li><li>Leads troubleshooting efforts to determine the cause of failed tests or site underperformance.</li><li>Organizes site turnover and O&amp;M documentation.</li><li>Assists in establishing the project Safety Tagging, Lockout &amp; Work Permit Program and ensuring compliance with its provisions.</li><li>Interfaces with the Owner’s Operations Department to schedule O&amp;M training.</li><li>Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.</li><li>Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies &amp; Procedures.</li><li>Leads meetings.</li><li>Participates in template and procedure development.</li><li>Trains testing personnel on test equipment usage and standard work instructions.</li></ul> Safety: <ul><li>Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.</li><li>Leads by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices while working.</li><li>Accountable to continually reinforce safe behaviors and correct “at risk” behaviors.</li><li>Adheres to and ensures all site team members understands standard operating procedures.</li><li>Leads and supports the site team in technical, quality and safety, utilizing system in place. </li><li>Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.  Reports </li><li>Ensures that safety is the most important function, follows safe practices while working.</li><li>Reinforces safe behaviors and eliminates “at risk” behaviors.</li><li>Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.</li><li>Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before scopes of work commence.</li><li>Adheres to and understands standard operating procedures.</li><li>Receives job- and task-specific training prior to work commencing.</li><li>Follows technical, quality and safety systems in place and determines appropriate action.</li><li>Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.  Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly. </li></ul> Leadership: <ul><li>Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations.</li><li>Manages one or more direct reports.</li><li>Participates in hiring and selection process to fill positions on the team.</li><li>Communicates regularly with direct reports on goals, accomplishments, and information on policies.</li><li>Demonstrates leadership and expertise in eyes of client group.</li><li>Employee Development:<ul><li>Provides tasks and assignments that challenge and stretch employees’ responsibilities.</li><li>Conducts regular discussions with employee(s) on personal development. Comfortable with empowering others.</li><li>Conducts timely, effective performance reviews in accordance with RES guidelines.</li></ul></li></ul> Qualifications: <ul><li>Highschool/GED is required. </li><li>Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent is preferred. </li><li>4+ years of testing and commissioning electrical systems, preferably on utility-scale solar and energy storage projects is required. </li><li>Ability to travel 75-100%. </li><li>A valid drivers license is required. </li><li>Advanced<ul><li>Underground and overhead distribution testing; transmission systems testing; single and three-phase electrical testing</li><li>DC systems architecture and testing</li><li>Utility-scale solar power plant design, operation, and testing </li><li>HV and MV switching operations</li><li>Lockout/Tagout programs and safe practices when working on energized equipment</li></ul></li><li>Intermediate<ul><li>Relevant codes and standards associated with the testing and design of electrical systems, including NETA, IEEE, NFPA 70E</li><li>Field construction, commissioning, and start-up of renewable power plants</li><li>Planning, supervising, staffing, and directing daily work</li><li>Technical specifications and contractual documents</li></ul></li><li>Beginner<ul><li>SCADA control systems</li><li>Operations and maintenance</li><li>Root cause analysis</li><li>Microprocessor-based relay testing and programming</li><li>Project execution, budgeting, and schedule</li></ul></li><li>Oral &amp; written skills<ul><li>Technical writing skills</li><li>Ability to communicate issues to peers and superiors</li><li>Effective information transfer between contractors, clients, team members, and vendors</li><li>Clear and concise writing</li><li>Strong interpersonal and team skills</li><li>Ability to work independently and maintain a schedule for key deliverables</li></ul></li><li>Functional competencies include accountability, prioritization, system thinking, collaboration, and attention to detail</li></ul> Anticipated base salary range:  $120,000 - $150,000 The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
