This role is responsible for the design, analysis, prototyping, and validation of systems intended for both laboratory and demanding field environments. The ideal candidate is innovative, hands-on, and passionate about building reliable, high‑performance products that support scientific discovery and industrial applications.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Design and develop electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and integrated systems for new products.</li><li>Support existing products, including troubleshooting issues, implementing design improvements, evaluating component obsolescence risks, and assisting with sustaining engineering activities to ensure ongoing product reliability and manufacturability.</li><li>Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (electrical, software, manufacturing, quality) to translate product requirements into engineering specifications.</li><li>Create and maintain engineering drawings, models, BOMs, and documentation compliant with company standards and relevant industry practices.</li><li>Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analyses using analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA).</li><li>Lead prototype fabrication, including hands‑on building, 3D printing, and coordination with internal and external fabrication resources.</li><li>Plan and execute verification and validation testing.</li><li>Identify and address design risks, reliability concerns, and manufacturability challenges early in the product development cycle.</li><li>Support DFM/DFT efforts, working closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production.</li><li>Participate in stage‑gate reviews, presenting design data, risks, and recommendations at each development milestone.</li><li>Provide technical guidance and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and tools.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.  Sufficient combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.</li><li>3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in scientific instrumentation, sensors, industrial equipment, or related complex electromechanical systems.</li><li>Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and mechanical drafting.  Experience with product lifecycle tools (PLM systems) preferred.</li><li>Hands-on prototyping and test experience, including familiarity with machine shop tools and rapid prototyping methods. </li><li>Background in manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and/or additive manufacturing a plus.</li><li>Strong understanding of mechanics, materials, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and general engineering principles. </li><li>Experience with design for reliability (DFR), design for manufacturability (DFM), and working knowledge of FEA tools.</li><li>Experience designing products for challenging operating environments (temperature, humidity, vibration, contamination, ruggedization) preferred.</li><li>Ability to interpret and generate engineering documentation, including GD&amp;T.</li><li>Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.</li><li>Strong communication and presentation skills, including comfort participating in technical design reviews.</li></ul>  Teledyne and all of our employees are committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards.
