We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking a detail-oriented <strong>Quality Control Inspector, Composites 1st Shift</strong> to execute hands-on inspection activities across our manufacturing operations. Reporting directly to the Quality Control Supervisor, this role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and strict conformity of our aircraft components and assemblies.</p><p> </p><p><strong>General Requisition &amp; Multi-Site Opportunities:</strong></p><p> </p><p>Because we build an incredibly diverse range of cutting-edge aerospace technologies, applicants to this general requisition will be considered for many different aspects of manufacturing.  Depending on your technical background and location, you may be screened into functional areas including, but not limited to:</p><ul> <li>Receiving Inspection</li> <li>Composite Fabrication &amp; Structures</li> <li>Aircraft Assembly &amp; Paint</li> <li>Aircraft Final Integration </li> <li>Electrical Systems Integration &amp; Wire Harnesses</li> <li>Advanced Battery Systems &amp; Small Electronics</li> <li>Electromechanical Actuators &amp; Motors</li> <li>Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)</li> <li>Dimensional </li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Please Note:</strong> <em>This requisition focuses on standard visual and mechanical Quality Control inspections. Other positions, such as, Specialized Nondestructive Testing (NDT) and highly complex Dimensional roles (such as Dimensional QETs utilizing advanced CMMs) are handled through separate specialized job postings.</em></p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Perform receiving, in-process, and final physical inspections of parts, sub-assemblies, and final aircraft assemblies.</li> <li>Verify physical characteristics, dimensions, and configurations against complex engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models, and work instructions.</li> <li>Utilize standard mechanical inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, and thread gauges) to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.</li> <li>Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials; actively participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) process by initiating detailed defect reports.</li> <li>Collaborate closely with Production and Quality Engineering teams to communicate quality issues and support root-cause investigations.</li> <li>Maintain meticulous inspection records, traceability logs, and conformity documentation in accordance with FAA and internal QMS standards.</li> <li>Support a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and strict compliance with aerospace quality requirements.</li></ul><p> </p><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 2<strong>+ years</strong> of hands-on quality inspection experience in a production environment. (Candidates with relevant Technical/Associate's degrees or A&amp;P licenses may qualify with less experience).</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.</li> <li>Strong understanding of <strong>Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&amp;T)</strong> principles.</li> <li>Proficiency using standard precision measuring equipment and hand tools.</li> <li>Strong computer skills for navigating ERP/MES systems, documenting nonconformances, and logging inspection data.</li> <li>Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, ethics and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Prior experience in a heavily regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., Aerospace, Aviation, Defense, Medical Device).</li> <li>Working knowledge of <strong>FAA Part 21 or Part 145</strong> regulations and <strong>AS9100 / ISO 9001</strong> Quality Management Systems.</li> <li>Experience completing or verifying <strong>AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI)</strong>.</li> <li>Active <strong>FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&amp;P) license</strong>.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $20-$29 per hour.
