At Hitachi Global Air Power, you will be part of a global network that is shaping the future of industrial power.Summary of the position:The MIG Welder position requires an individual to perform MIG welding on a wide range of components.This position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Indiana.  Duties and responsibilities:<ul><li>Selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications.</li><li>Requires a thorough knowledge of welding techniques, material characteristics and structural fundamentals.</li><li>Working with different sized bases and frames, structural steel and plate steel weldments.</li><li>Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately.</li><li>Determining correct gas ratios and wire feed speed.</li><li>Testing the strength of each joint during and after project completion.</li><li>Driving a forklift, operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials.</li><li>Ability to operate the Spot Weld and PEM machines</li><li>Ability to operate the Robotic Weld machines</li></ul>Qualifications:Education:<ul><li>High School Education or equivalent.</li></ul><ul><li>Welding Certificate preferred.</li><li>Welding trades schooling preferred.</li></ul>Professional experience:<ul><li>Demonstrates the knowledge and experience necessary to meet the requirements of the departmental assessment.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.</li><li>1 year of welding experience required; 5-10+ years of welding experience preferred.</li><li>Strong mathematical skills.</li><li>Understand technical blueprints.</li><li>Exhibit customer-focused behavior through effective communication with internal customers, peers and leadership team.</li><li>Computer skills required (i.e., spreadsheets, data entry, email).</li><li>Ability to use precision measurement device to work within tight tolerances.</li><li>Ability to work with cranes, sharp edges on machined parts, electrical components and moving parts by carts.</li></ul>Key behaviors:<ul><li>Lifting up to 35 lbs.</li><li>Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate.</li><li>Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours.</li><li>Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist.</li><li>Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards.</li><li>Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.</li><li>Required to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.</li><li>Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.</li><li>Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.</li><li>Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime.</li><li>Assertive</li><li>Critical Thinking</li><li>Process Driven</li><li>Good Communication Skills</li><li>Team Oriented</li><li>Passionate</li></ul>Direct reports:<ul><li>N/A</li></ul><div></div>The successful candidate is responsible for complying with Hitachi Global Air Power US Code of Ethics and related policies.
