Sol Systems is seeking an Associate of Market Policy &amp; Regulatory Affairs to monitor, track, and communicate developments in RTO/ISO markets, regulatory proceedings, state clean energy policy, and federal policy that affect the company's development, investment, and operating activities. The role reports to Sol’s Vice President of Markets and Strategic Solutions. The position is based in Washington, D.C. based with a 3-day in-office requirement. The ideal candidate is a driven self-starter with at least three years of prior experience in policy or regulatory affairs, the ability to quickly understand legislative and regulatory processes, sound judgment, and a collaborative, proactive approach to working across teams in a dynamic environment.Sol Systems is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) committed to building, owning, and managing clean energy infrastructure that benefits local communities. Founded in 2008 and led by its founder, Sol Systems is dedicated to shaping an energy future we can all believe in. This role offers a rare vantage point at the intersection of wholesale market, state and federal policy and real project deployment where your regulatory and policy analysis directly shapes how Sol builds, buys, and operates clean energy and battery storage assets across the country.Role Responsibilities:<ul><li>Policy and Regulatory Monitoring – Track state policy and regulatory developments across priority markets, including legislation, commission proceedings, incentive programs, procurement activity, and utility regulatory actions. Monitor relevant RTO/ISO stakeholder processes, and federal policy as needed, to identify issues that may affect Sol’s development pipeline, operating assets, customer offerings, and investment strategy. Use trade associations, consultants, lobbyists, legislative subscriptions, and other tools to obtain and organize high-quality market intelligence and help the team prioritize issues for analysis and engagement.</li><li>Policy and Regulatory Analysis – Evaluate how wholesale market rule changes, state policy changes, utility regulatory actions, federal policies, and may affect development projects, operating assets, customer solutions, and future investments. Help translate those developments into practical risk assessments, opportunity identification, and concise recommendations for internal teams.</li><li>Reporting and Internal Advisory – Prepare concise summaries, recommendations, and other materials that help Development, M&amp;A, Market Intelligence, Asset Management, Partnerships, and other internal teams understand key policy and regulatory developments, assess impacts and identify relevant risks or opportunities. Improve tracking and communication tools and workflows to support efficient information sharing across teams, including through selective use of emerging AI tools where helpful.</li><li>Stakeholder Engagement – Assist the VP of Markets and Strategic Solutions in the development, coordination, and implementation of strategic initiatives at the state, federal, and wholesale market levels. Support external affairs through engagement with industry associations, regulatory experts, legislative offices, NGOs, and coalitions, as well as through event attendance, educational toolkits, or the drafting of public comments to represent the company's position as needed. Bring a relationship-oriented, responsive approach to this work.</li></ul>Requirements:<ul><li>3 years of prior experience in policy, regulatory affairs, government affairs, utility regulation, clean energy policy, or a legislative/regulatory agency</li><li>Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree in policy, environmental, or legal field preferred</li><li>Experience tracking or analyzing RTO/ISO stakeholder processes, FERC proceedings, state policy, clean energy policy frameworks, or utility regulatory matters; direct RTO/ISO experience is helpful</li><li>Solid understanding of state clean energy policy, utility regulation, and competitive market dynamics, with a strong interest in advancing solutions for clean energy and storage</li><li>Ability to review and analyze regulatory and policy updates and information quickly and provide written analysis or graphic summaries; interested in AI</li><li>Ability to connect regulatory and policy developments to the “bottom line” for Sol’s teams and make recommendations relative to impacts on development projects, operating assets, as well as market opportunities or risks; comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities may shift and follow-through is essential.</li></ul>Commitment &amp; Compensation: The base salary for this role is between $90,000 and $110,000 annually, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position.
