You have a strong track record in product design and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges at pace. You are technically proficient, a people leader, and capable of managing the scheduling and resourcing of a complex project.The role reports to the Director of Inverter Technology and will have 2-5 direct reports. Role / Duties<ul style="margin-top:0.0px;"><li>Meeting quarterly project progress targets, with goals that come all the way from the CEO</li><li>Professional development of your team</li><li>Representing your team to the yearly Performance Focal Group and Promotion Review Board</li><li>Technical decisions regarding design</li><li>Managing global suppliers to produce parts and assemblies on schedule</li><li>Lead design options and reviews; drive optimisation of electromechanical assemblies including EMI/EMC/RI and thermal requirements.</li><li>Apply DFM/DFA/DFT/DFC principles across the full product lifecycle, including supplier selection and process qualification.</li><li>Plan and execute engineering verification and reliability testing.</li><li>Engage cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, manufacturing, and procurement teams.</li><li>Identify and resolve design requirement conflicts and ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards.</li></ul> Qualification and Previous Experience<ul style="margin-top:0.0px;"><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.</li><li>12+ years’ experience in product or part design, with a strong track record across the full product development lifecycle.</li><li>Experience in leading and managing other engineers</li><li>Demonstrable expertise in injection moulding, sheet metal, and CNC machining design and manufacturing processes.</li><li>Proficiency in an enterprise CAD package — SolidWorks strongly preferred, ideally in a PDM-managed environment.</li><li>Experience with both investigative and verification testing, including writing test plans and technical reports.</li></ul> What Would Make You Stand Out?<ul style="margin-top:0.0px;"><li>3+ years experience leading a team of 5 people.</li><li>Designing for product lifetimes of 20–25 years in outdoor, weathered environments.</li><li>Top-down modelling strategies such as Master Modelling in SolidWorks.</li><li>Background in connectors, power electronics enclosures, or electromechanical assemblies.</li><li>Familiarity with global product compliance and certification processes (e.g. UL, IEC, CE).</li><li>Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.</li></ul> Employee Benefits<ul style="margin-top:0.0px;"><li>Restricted stock units (RSUs) as part of your total compensation.</li><li>Bonus plan.</li><li>Wellbeing and insurance benefits for you and your family.</li><li>Annual performance reviews with clear career progression pathways.</li><li>Well-equipped laboratory and R&amp;D facility in central Christchurch.</li></ul> Visa RequirementsEnphase Energy NZ is currently only considering candidates for this role with New Zealand permanent residency or citizenship.
