We are developing practical, scalable battery technology with the goal of delivering safer, higher-performance energy storage solutions for some of the most demanding applications in the market.  Educational Requirements: Minimally BS in Engineering or MS in Physical Sciences with an emphasis on Energy Storage and/or Material Science preferred or, a BS in the Physical Sciences with 2+ years work experience in a field relevant to the company’s activities  Experience/Skills Required: <ul><li>Extensive laboratory experience in both the making and characterization of materials. </li></ul><ul><li>Fundamental chemical and/or mechanical engineering principles. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with material characterization such as SEM/EDS, TEM, XRD, TGA. </li></ul><ul><li>Handling of hazardous materials and general laboratory safety best practices mandatory. </li></ul>Experience/Skills Preferred:  <ul><li>Battery cell construction and characterization; full and half cells, pouch and coin cell formats.  </li></ul><ul><li>Battery cycler programming.  </li></ul><ul><li>Electrochemical characterization techniques such as galvanostatic/potentiostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry, and impedance spectroscopy.  </li></ul><ul><li>Basic understanding of the chemistry and operation of lithium-ion batteries. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with CVD processes, cleanroom operations, glovebox operations, and dry room assembly environments. </li></ul>Behavioral Attributes: <ul><li>Highly independent and self-starter.  </li></ul><ul><li>Outstanding team player and collaborator.  </li></ul><ul><li>Thorough and clear communication in both formal written formats and oral presentations. </li></ul>Roles and Responsibilities:  <ul><li>You will be reporting to a Senior Battery Materials Engineer. </li></ul><ul><li>Operate and manage equipment for laboratory testing including battery cycler systems. </li></ul><ul><li>Construction of coin/pouch cells for internal/external testing, for up to 35% of general workload. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide engineering analysis for the impact of different components in battery cells on the overall performance. </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare summary reports, communicate results in an effective way. </li></ul><ul><li>Material characterization, engineering principles, basic statistics and analysis of data, independent learning. </li></ul><ul><li>Assist and contribute to battery cell handling and testing procedures. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop and implement system support process and documentation. </li></ul><ul><li>Interact with existing and potential collaborators inside and outside of the organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Support business development efforts as needed. </li></ul><ul><li>Expand and protect the company’s intellectual property portfolio. </li></ul>Location: Rochester, NY. Travel: Some travel may be required within NYS (up to 20%), domestically (up to 25%) and internationally (up to 10%) annually, depending on Covid restrictions and safety requirements. Total travel not to exceed 30% annually.
