Specific duties include but not limited to utilization of computers and computer order / record keeping systems, working service orders associated with current required operator qualifications.<h2>Responsibilities &amp; Duties:</h2><ul><li>Perform meter turn-ons and turn-offs</li><li>Delivers disconnect notifications to customers</li><li>Read customer meters</li><li>Install meters and meter sets, may include industrial meters</li><li>Light pilots, test and inspect appliances and gas equipment to ensure proper operation</li><li>Perform farm tap maintenance</li><li>Remove meters</li><li>Respond to high bill requests by performing dial tests, appliance and filter checks</li><li>Meet with customers regarding line relocates</li><li>Change out meters related to the sample testing program</li><li>Repair water heaters, appliances, etc. (Install if licensed)</li><li>Monitor for meter tampering; ensure meters are securely installed</li><li>Monitor atmospheric corrosion and paint as needed</li><li>Locate gas lines</li><li>Inspect/maintain farm tap stations</li><li>First Responder to emergency/leak calls; evaluate and grade leaks</li><li>Assist in training service apprentices</li><li>Assist O&amp;M group with line repairs</li><li>May performs leak surveys</li><li>Assist other departments as needed</li><li>Clear pipelines</li><li>Repair/install temporary clamps on steel risers</li><li>Repair damaged ½” and ¾” plastic services</li><li>Bar test to evaluate and grade underground gas leaks</li><li>Prepare unregulated estimates and maintain computer record keeping</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul>Basic/Required Qualifications for Tech I &amp; Tech II<ul><li>High school diploma or GED.</li></ul>Basic/Required Qualifications for Tech III<ul><li>High school diploma or GED.</li><li>3 years related work experience</li></ul><h2>Desired Qualifications:</h2><ul><li>Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license</li><li>Basic computer knowledge working in a Windows environment</li><li>Demonstrated mechanical aptitude</li><li>Two-year degree and or Technical Certifications</li><li>Possess a minimum of one: Plumbing License (P1 or P2), Fuel Piping License/Journeyman, HVAC License, Electrical License (Limited or Full). Must be willing to use license(s) for Piedmont Natural Gas Business purposes</li><li>Experience in Customer Service</li><li>Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills</li><li>Safety awareness</li></ul><h2>Physical Requirements:</h2><ul><li>Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; flexible work schedule; lifting up to 75 lbs.; frequent bending, stooping, standing, crawling, digging, climbing; works on uneven terrain, many times with heavy vegetation; manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination); keen eyesight; good hearing; good sense of smell; comes in frequent contact with insects and animals.</li></ul><h2>Specific Requirements:</h2><ul><li>This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight-rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.</li><li>Perform on call duty as scheduled/assigned</li><li>Weekend and evening work as required and is subject to overtime and some rotating shifts.
