Community and Events Associate

In this role, you’ll support the Boston Community &amp; Events and Operations teams in creating a thoughtful, connected, and engaging experience for our startup members and visitors. You’ll build relationships with founders and teams through regular member interactions, support member communications, and help plan and execute engaging community events. You’ll also provide event logistics and operational support to help keep the Boston community running smoothly. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships, staying organized, and balancing a strong focus on member experience with the behind-the-scenes details that keep a busy community and events schedule running smoothly.  This role will report to the Senior Director of Community and Events. What you'll do<ul><li>Support event logistics before, during, and after events, including space setup and breakdown, catering, name tags, signage, vendor coordination, and post-event follow-up such as updating registrant data, organizing photos and recordings, and other event administration.</li><li>Support the planning and execution of smaller daytime and community events, including visitor tours, workshops, Lunch &amp; Learns, Member Mixers, Town Halls, and office hours, with a focus on creating a welcoming and engaging member experience.</li><li>Create and update graphics, signage, flyers, member materials, and intranet content to support event promotion, event operations, speaking programs, and internal communications, primarily using Canva.</li><li>Manage event supply inventory, including consumables, name tag materials, swag, and other supplies, and help ensure materials are prepared and available for upcoming programs.</li><li>Support member and visitor experience through regular front desk coverage, regular office walkthroughs, and maintaining clean, welcoming, and well-stocked shared spaces.</li><li>Track and review Certificates of Insurance (COIs), maintain accurate Salesforce records, and run compliance reports to support event and operational processes.</li><li>Provide additional support to Greentown’s Community &amp; Events and Operations teams as needed.</li></ul>Who You Are<ul><li>Passion for climate, sustainability, innovation, ESG, corporate social responsibility, social enterprise, startups, and/or storytelling </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</li><li>Commitment to diversity and inclusion</li><li><ul><li>A strong commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all and a belief that climate action must be inclusive to be effective.</li></ul></li><li>Flexible and adaptable</li><li><ul><li>Mission-oriented with a can-do attitude and interest in learning on the job.</li><li>Ability to adjust to changing priorities and handle unexpected situations with a high level of professionalism.</li></ul></li><li>Proactive and self-motivated</li><li><ul><li>Ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage time effectively.</li></ul></li><li>Highly organized and detail-oriented</li><li><ul><li>Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage complex logistics and competing demands.</li></ul></li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in event/hospitality, humanities, environmental studies/science, entrepreneurship, or a related field, with a strong academic record</li><li>Relevant experience in event planning, hospitality, or programming</li><li>Basic graphic design skills or experience with Canva (or similar platforms)</li><li>Customer service or member support experience preferred</li><li>Proven initiative and leadership in academic, professional, or extracurricular settings</li><li>Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail</li><li>Positive attitude, adaptability, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment</li><li>Comfortable working with digital tools, such as Asana, Salesforce, and Google Workspace</li></ul>General Physical DemandsReasonable accommodations will be provided upon request to enable candidates to perform the essential functions of the position.<ul><li>Communication: Regularly required to communicate with others in person, via phone, and virtually/electronically</li><li>Stationary Work: Prolonged periods working on a computer</li><li>Mobility: Regularly moving around the office to interact with colleagues, access files, and attend meetings</li><li>Physical Demands: Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.</li></ul>Additional Considerations<ul><li>Travel: Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site events or conferences.</li><li>Late Hours: Evening work will be necessary for some events.</li></ul>Work Location and ScheduleThis role requires on-site work at Greentown in Somerville, MA at least four days per week, including at least four evenings per month. Remote work up to one day per week is available with manager approval and schedule coordination.
