ABOUT THE COALITIONThe Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) aligns critical stakeholders on a path to transform the nation’s buildings through clean energy, using policy, research, market development and public engagement. The BDC and its members are charting the course to eliminate fossil fuels in buildings to improve people’s health, cut climate and air pollution, prioritize high-road jobs, and ensure that our communities are more resilient to the impacts of climate change. The need to electrify the United States (U.S.) building stock and phase out fossil fuels has gone from a niche technical concern to the most debated climate issue in the U.S. The BDC is proud to have been a leader in this conversation by organizing, speaking for, and empowering a broad group of stakeholders who are united behind the common goal of eliminating fossil fuels from buildings. We work to educate and inspire the people who live in buildings. We do this with our Switch Is On brand, which also provides tools to make switching to an all-electric lifestyle a bit more streamlined. BDC’s “Switch is On” campaign promotes all-electric lifestyles and helps educate and inspire consumers to switch out their gas appliances for efficient, electric alternatives. The campaign uses a variety of marketing approaches to reach consumers, including but not limited to, paid media, earned media, grassroots/community marketing, social media, and translated marketing and educational materials. POSITION DESCRIPTION &amp; KEY PRIORITIESThe Sr. Associate, Community Outreach will report to the Sr Marketing Manager, CA, CXM, and collaborate with BDC teams such as California State, Policy Acceleration, Partnerships, Digital Products, Finance, and Brand.   The Sr. Marketing Associate, Community Outreach will work in collaboration with the Sr. Associate, Community Organizer to support all aspects of field operations, outreach events, and community engagement. This role will be instrumental in engaging neighborhoods within PG&amp;E’s service territory, implementing pilot programs, and building momentum toward neighborhood-scale electrification. The Sr. Marketing Associate will focus on project management, creative materials development, implement digital communications, and ensure successful coordination of community-facing efforts. In addition, this role will support the Switch is On growth marketing strategies and will coordinate with the Sr. Marketing Manager and Director of Marketing, Consumer Experience and Marketing to create compelling pitch decks, detailed implementation project plans, and other tasks as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMarketing &amp; Outreach Execution<ul><li>Develop, implement, and localize marketing plans and materials, advertising, and messages. Tailor messaging to reflect community needs and priorities, ensuring inclusiveness and cultural relevance in all outreach efforts.</li><li>Create, track and iterate content for multiple channels, including social media posts, blog articles, email campaigns, videos, press releases, and event collateral. </li><li>Promote and support community events, workshops, and webinars to improve favorability, build awareness to aid in the switch for to all-electric homes. </li><li>Track and report key metrics to measure the impact of outreach and marketing initiatives.</li><li>Provide insights and recommendations for optimization based on feedback loops and performance data.</li></ul>Community Engagement<ul><li>Coordinate marketing and outreach needs with local stakeholders, utilities, community groups, and nonprofit organizations and manage and synthesize feedback about marketing outreach. </li><li>Attend in-person and virtual community events, supporting the community organizer with neighborhood pilots. </li></ul>Project Management &amp; Collaboration<ul><li>Manage outreach timelines and workback schedules, using tools like Asana to ensure deliverables are on time and within scope.</li></ul><ul><li>Develop and manage detailed marketing project plans that outline objectives, timelines, deliverables, and resource needs.</li><li>Create pitch decks to communicate ideas, campaign proposals, and marketing strategies to internal teams and external partners.</li><li>Develop creative briefs that provide clear direction to design, content, and external vendors.</li><li>Contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations for internal teams and external stakeholders.</li><li>Draft scope of work (SOW) documents for marketing campaigns and collaborations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and expectations.</li><li>Support the creation of contracts for vendors, contractors, and partners, working closely with internal and external partners to ensure compliance and clarity.</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS &amp; CHARACTERISTICS<ul><li>4+ years experience in marketing, program management, digital organizing, or grassroots campaigns, ideally within nonprofit, government, or mission-driven organizations.</li><li>Demonstrated success working with CBOs, local governments, utility companies, and advocacy organizations to build strategic partnerships.</li><li>Skilled in leading and executing complex project roadmaps with defined timelines, deliverables, and resources to ensure smooth, on-time delivery.</li><li>Experienced in cross-functional collaboration, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to align goals and maintain seamless communication.</li><li>Expertise in crafting creative briefs, scopes of work, and contracts for marketing campaigns and partnerships.</li><li>Highly-capable developing content strategies across multiple platforms, including social media, blogs, emails, how-to guides, videos, web pages, press releases, and digital ads.</li><li>Empathetic and culturally aware, with a talent for engaging and mobilizing diverse communities.</li><li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to various audiences.</li><li>Deep passion for sustainability, clean energy, climate solutions, decarbonization, and the electrification of built environments.</li><li>Proficiency with tools such as HubSpot, Asana, Canva, WordPress, Zoom, Slack, Google Slides, Google Docs, and Google Analytics.</li></ul>WORK ENVIRONMENT, SCHEDULE &amp; TRAVELThis position will work remotely from their home and must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The focus will be working within neighborhoods in PG&amp;E service territory, supporting pilots for neighborhood-scale electrification, and promoting The Switch Is On campaign strategies to build neighborhood consensus for electrification efforts.The ideal candidate will be responsible for building, growing, and engaging with neighborhoods online and offline to meet program goals and report on the most effective tactics for larger-scale implementation. The ideal candidate has experience in community organizing and grassroots campaigns or labor organizing with skills in managing field operations of canvassing, phone banking, and mobilizing community-based organizations (CBOs). This individual will foster community relationships and engage with stakeholders to drive participation and build support for clean energy transitions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<ul><li>Community Organizing: Act as the liaison between the BDC, partners, and community. Organize local partnerships and trusted community voices (e.g., CBOs, ambassadors) to promote the benefits of electrification. Including recruiting neighborhood volunteers and ensuring they have the resources, information, and materials..</li></ul>Campaign Fieldwork: Lead canvassing, phone banking efforts, and neighborhood outreach to build awareness and drive engagement.  Train local volunteers, residents, and community organizations.<ul><li>Community Outreach Events: Plan, promote,  and participate in community outreach events such as town hall meetings, home/neighborhood block/church parties, educational workshops, and other neighborhood gatherings. Engage with local governments and community organizations and facilitate conversations with residents to enhance program reach​.</li><li>Digital Engagement: Foster meaningful relationships with residents, and community leaders via social media, forums, and other digital platforms. Create spaces where residents and neighborhoods can connect, discuss, and organize around shared goals.</li><li>Metrics &amp; Reporting: Track performance of community engagement activities, capturing data to measure program effectiveness. Regularly report results to stakeholders, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting strategies accordingly.  Provide clear updates to the program team and partners. </li><li>Project Management: Manage timelines, ensuring all deliverables are completed on schedule. Work closely with internal teams and external contractors to maintain consistent messaging and high program visibility.</li></ul><h3>QUALIFICATIONS &amp; CHARACTERISTICS</h3><ul><li>5+ years of experience in community organizing, field operations, campaign management, or labor organizing, particularly in grassroots movements, energy, environmental organizations, or community-based initiatives.</li><li>Strong experience leading canvassing operations, phone banking, and field offices.
