Company Description

Our partnerships, designed collaboratively with Indigenous Peoples, focus on strengthening guardianship by supporting self-determination and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations through direct funding. Today, our support spans 33 biocultural settings covering 128M hectares of territories, an area three times the size of California that is rich in biodiversity while sequestering 24.4 gigatons of carbon. These are the homelands of nearly 300 distinct Indigenous Peoples.

This is significant progress, but we must do much more than engage in direct partnerships to achieve our vision. Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship of billions of hectares of territories essential to the well-being of all people is under increasing threat, and we cannot do this alone.

This is our moment to respond, and we must.

Building upon our partnerships and inspired by aligned movements, we have developed a five-year strategy to accelerate the field of Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship by:

  • Identifying crucial information gaps and collaborating to generate a stronger evidence base

  • Funding and connecting an assemblage of place-anchored partnerships that demonstrate the success of our approach

  • Deliver crucial resources through strengthened regional networks and hubs

  • Sharing stories and evidence from Indigenous Peoples to influence policymakers, allies, and funders

  • Increasing the number of allies for Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship.

When partnerships between Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous allies expand and bridge conservation, development, philanthropy, and social justice, the global movement serving Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship will succeed. This is the pathway toward a vibrant future for generations of all life. We will know we are successful when:

  • Indigenous Peoples thrive in their ancestral lands and waters according to self-determined parameters of well-being

  • Organizations and institutions dedicated to Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship proliferate

  • Nation states, adjacent sectors, and fields recognize and support Indigenous Peoples’ guardianship

  • Direct investment in Indigenous Peoples’ organizations increases.
