Job Description

The Company

In order to keep climate change to 1.5°C, we’ll need 30% of global GDP (all of the energy generation and transportation) to run on batteries by 2035.

Zitara Technologies (YCombinator S20) builds predictive battery management software for transportation and energy customers with large deployments. Their customers operate >$100M deployments of batteries in satellites, EVs, and renewable energy storage installations.

Our team brings top researchers in physics-based battery algorithms together with seasoned software engineers to build safety-critical firmware and large-scale machine learning systems. We bring with us decades of experience from Toyota, Exponent, Proterra, Tesla, Gogoro, Google, and Facebook, and a passion for technologies that can have an immediate impact on the climate crisis.

The Role

Zitara's operation team’s software spans several domains:

  • large-scale data infrastructure
  • automation of our in-house battery lab
  • scaling battery lab operations profitably to keep up with ever growing customer demands.

Our operational tools and processes impact all our product lines and are integral to Zitara’s success and bottom line.

We're looking for a data engineer who is committed to delivering robust, scalable tools for our operations team. You'll contribute to Zitara's success by creating custom solutions to address operational needs, from test automation and monitoring, to data collection, validation and visualization. To succeed, you'll collaborate with both operations and engineering team members to build tools that support existing and future processes to create a smooth pipeline from data to machine learning to product.

In this role, you'll be expected to jump into at least one or two specific well-defined projects immediately, and help define future projects to streamline our operations as we grow.

Responsibilities

  • Understand complex problems across multiple disciplines and apply software engineering methodology to attack them
  • Make data engineering choices in the face of evolving product requirements
  • Work with project management team members to scope and schedule work
  • Work with team members to ensure features meet operational needs
  • Write robust, tested code to solve challenges at every scale
  • Contribute to design, code, and internal documentation

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelors' in technical subject or equivalent proficiency
  • 2+ years experience in industry data engineering
  • 1+ year experience in one or more of the following specialties:
    • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases
    • Automating data collection, storage, and validation
    • Organizing and managing large, complex data sets
    • AWS or other cloud services
    • Networking test equipment
    • Creating data and operations dashboards
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience shipping robust internal tools
  • Basic software development workflow processes with git
  • Experience with project management and agile development
  • Clear and effective written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Creative problem solving with limited resources and engineering constraints

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, or physics
  • Experience writing software tools to automate physical processes

What We Offer

  • Full-time position: 3 days in office in San Francisco, CA as possible; 2 optionally remote days per week
  • Competitive pay
  • Health, Dental, and Vision care for you and your family
  • 401K savings plan
  • “Unlimited PTO” vacation policy
  • Excellent colleagues that are interested in your happiness and growth
