Job Description
ROLEStructural simulation, design, and validation
OVERVIEWThe Mechanical Engineering COE within Smart Hardware is responsible for R&D of hardware platform technologies in autonomous driving, digital cockpit, and digital networking. The team innovates around project pain-points across global NIO products, explores cutting-edge technologies within and beyond automotive industry, and develops prototypes/architectures/processes/standards to push product boundaries. You will collaborate with other NIOers around the world (US, CN, UK, DE, etc.) to develop hardware that delights the user.
Responsibilities
- Structural simulation of electrical, mechanical, and optical systems
- Stress-strain analysis, with a focus on PCBA, BGA, and optical elements
- Static & dynamic load-deflection analysis
- Modal analysis
- Lifetime reliability analysis, e.g. solder fatigue
- Some CAD modeling to iterate design with simulation
- Collaborate with simulation teams in Vehicle Engineering to align simulations up to the vehicle-level
- Design and execution of empirical experiments to validate simulation models
- Strain gauge
- Force-deflection tester
- Vibe & shock tables
- Accelerometer
- Serve as the structures lead during architecture and design phase of projects
- Participate in defining DVP&R and recommend design improvements based on testing results
General Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field, with a specialty in structural simulation
- Thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics fundamentals
- Mechanical engineering fundamentals (solid mechanics, kinematics, GD&T, etc...)
- Design and 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5/6 preferred)
- Self-motivated and organized, can quickly solve difficult design problems and has a passion for innovation
- Excellent prioritization, cross-functional teamwork, written and verbal communication
Role Specific Qualifications
- 8+ years of post-graduate experience in structural simulation – experience with ANSYS suite preferred
- Background in electronics design and validation
- Background in optical systems design and validation
- Understanding of electrical engineering considerations such as – chassis grounding, EMI shielding, PCB fabrication, SMT reflow soldering, board layout, etc.
