Flux Marine is a high-growth marine technology start-up that is designing electric outboard motors from the ground up without using legacy combustion engine parts. This allows our motors to maximize efficiency and minimize maintenance without compromising performance vs gas engines. Our technology has many applications including commercial, recreational, yacht tender, and defense markets. 

Job Overview

In this role, you will serve as a technical expert for the design, manufacture and testing of gear and shaft assemblies. You will own hardware subassemblies from ideation through to production, including specifications, design, prototype and testing. Successful candidates will have strong time management skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Core responsibilities will include working closely with the structural and powertrain engineers to develop a reliable and robust mechanical drivetrain. As a part of this role, you will have visibility into the other projects in development at the company and will regularly engage with the executives and founders on the progress of your work.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Help define system level requirements for the drivetrain power transmission and supporting components
  • Complete FMEA and root cause analysis of gear, shaft and power transmission components
  • Develop and iterate power transmission subassemblies including, bearing, shafting and gearbox integration components
  • Collaborate with Powertrain and Structural engineers on design, simulation, integration, and testing.
  • Present project progress and challenges during all-hands meetings 
  • Sourcing and procuring drivetrain components

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience working on drivetrain systems
  • Prior experience with electric vehicles/Formula SAE or similar is a plus
  • Prior experience working with belt drives is a plus
  • CAD proficiency, Autodesk Inventor preferred
  • Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of DFMA
  • Self-motivated worker with strong attention to detail
  • Prior experience with lean six-sigma is a plus
