Job Description

WAP Sustainability is seeking a motivated, values-driven individual to join our team of sustainability catalysts. This role will require strong technical skills and a passion for improving the environment by addressing the human health impacts of leading products and companies.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable in a fast-paced business setting focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and change and have the desire to learn, grow, and maintain expertise as the industry progresses. They will also have documented experience working with toxicological assessment methodologies (hazard, exposure, and risk), materials-based certifications, and/or materials ingredient disclosures.

In this role, you will have technical responsibilities such as:

Suppliers outreach:

    • Support implementation of supply chain outreach projects with the intent of cultivating transparency.
    • Review and translate supplier-provided information into value chain data systems.

Client support:

    • Evaluate and guide clients in understanding hazards and potential health risks from chemicals and ingredients in products.

Use of software and databases:

    • Create and work with large datasets in internal and third-party databases, such as Toxnot.
    • Use software and tools to evaluate toxicity, potential health & safety risks, and environmental fate and transport (e.g., Toxnot, Epi-Suite, Benchmark Dose Software (BMDS), OECD QSAR Toolbox).
    • Prepare chemical transparency documentation for building and consumer product companies, such as Health Product Declarations (HPDs) and Declare Labels.

Technical and project work:

    • Support execution of chemical hazard assessments using methods such as GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals, Cradle-to-Cradle Material Health Assessment, Safer Choice Ingredients List (SCIL), ChemForward, etc.
    • Collaborate with team members cross-functionally to support and leverage other services, such as LCA, carbon accounting, and ESG-managed services.
    • Develop relevant procedures, processes, and protocols to support efficient workflow.

 

Priority will be given to candidates with project management experience who are independently driven and effective collaborators and can contribute a service-based attitude to the role, day in and day out. This is a full-time and fully remote position; relocation is not required, but travel may be required. Compensation will be negotiated based on experience. Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in material science, toxicology, chemistry, engineering, or environmental science (an advanced degree with a relevant specialization is a plus).
  • Experience in toxicology, manufacturing, material transparency, chemical management, and/or chemical regulatory compliance.   
  • Experience with one or more tools referenced in the technical responsibilities section.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Consulting experience preferred.
