The Credit Analyst is a critical role with Sunstone Credit. You will work directly with the VP of Risk / Chief Risk Officer and Commercial Underwriters to review applications for creditworthiness and the receipt of the appropriate documents. You will follow-up with borrowers to secure the additional information to make sound lending decisions while maintaining an exceptional customer experience. You will be expected to look for new, creative, and innovative ways to process loan applications that improves the speed, quality, and competitiveness of our underwriting process. The selected candidate will have a stellar track record of dependable, superior performance in previous roles, elite customer service skills, excellent organizational skills, a knowledge of bank policies and procedures, and a willingness to contribute beyond the scope of the job description to ensure Sunstone’s success. This role is a great stepping-stone toward becoming a commercial underwriter with Sunstone Credit.

The following are required skills for the role:

• Demonstrated success in customer contact roles.
• Demonstrated organizational skills. Show us how you have successfully managed multiple priorities and exceeded deadlines.
• Familiarity with banking regulations – you do not need to be an expert, but you must have a working knowledge of key regulations and be willing to learn.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills – you will be making the first impression on our customers.
• Innate sales and negotiation skills – the selected candidate does not let a deal walk away without a fight.
• Demonstrated willingness to dig into the details – keep asking questions until you are comfortable you have what you need for Sunstone to make a sound lending decision.
• A four-year college / university degree in business, accounting, finance, or other related discipline – you enjoy working with numbers and digging into details to help you understand how a business works.
• Supports the CRO / VP Risk with maintaining an environment at Sunstone laser-focused on compliance, strong ethics, and regulatory adherence.
• Show us that you are willing to speak up – bring up new ideas and recommendations, challenge stale thinking or decisions that could jeopardize loan quality, and professionally tell colleagues and partners what they need to hear.
• Demonstrated ability to make (really good) decisions independently.
• This is a start-up. We expect the above skills in the selected candidate, and you will be asked to do more. The selected candidate must be willing to accept “other tasks as assigned” to ensure the company’s success.

Other Skills / Qualifications We Would Love to See (but are not necessarily required):

• An additional two years of education toward an MBA or other advanced degree.
• Candidates located in the Washington D.C. through New York City corridor are highly preferred so we can meet face to face more frequently.
• Candidates that are not looking for 100% remote work.
• Previous start-up experience – or sell us as to “why now?” for a start-up.
