One Tree Planted seeks to hire an Urban Forestry Project Manager to manage a growing portfolio of urban forestry projects in the Eastern United States and support our Urban Forestry team, and One Tree Planted as a whole, with additional programmatic and administrative duties.


POSITION PURPOSE:

The ideal candidate will be based in the Eastern United States; 3-5+ years of relevant experience in the field of Urban Forestry; speak multiple languages, ideally Spanish; be experienced and comfortable with conference presentations; and be a highly-organized self-starter. This position is responsible for urban forestry projects in specific states, as applicable:  Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Mississippi, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, DC, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.


Reporting Relationships 

This position will report to our Director of Urban Forestry as a member of our Urban Forestry team. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management:  70%

Responsible for the creation, organization, execution and completion of urban forestry projects in the Eastern United States, including:


Identification of projects:  Beginning of every planting season with new and existing planting partners.

  • Review project proposal submissions through AirTable for specific regions internally with One Tree Planted staff
  • Identify and manage potential risks and liabilities of projects
  • Negotiate project budgets with planting partners
  • Assess partners’ current maintenance and monitoring practices internally
  • Spearhead initial and follow-up questions with planting partners via direct phone calls and/or Zoom meetings
  • Consistently seek out new partnerships for expansion with organized phone calls, Zoom meetings, and email communication 


Contracts:  Setting targets for milestones; adhering to deadlines and allocating resources.

  • Assist in the definition of project scope and goals; with planting partners, agree on the number and species of trees, breakdown of budget, geographic location, and finalize time frame of project
  • Set deadlines for the payment schedule based on planting season schedule and on the basis of donation source
  • Draft agreements for planting partner
  • Upload finalized executable agreement in PandaDocs for signature and assure the signing by all parties
  • File finalized agreements on all required platforms (e.g., AirTable, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Update partner databases 


Budgets/Payment processes:  Ensure timely payments to planting partners.

  • Monitor project budgets and review expenditure reports of each project
  • Acquire banking information and advice accounts payable of funds to be sent on schedule


Active projects:  Monitor progress and perform quality control on the tree planting project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.

  • Update required information in Airtable and Salesforce (e.g., project description, number of trees, cost per tree, biodiversity benefits, community benefits, hectares restored)
  • Adjust schedules and targets of the project, as needed
  • Maintain close working relationships with all planting partners and stakeholders
  • In-person, on-site visits with planting partners to monitor progress and build relationships


Reporting and documentation:  Assess updates and end of project reports submitted by the partner.

  • Motivate people involved in the project to complete tasks on time
  • Share information internally for marketing requests and donor update emails to keep stakeholders informed


CORPORATE/INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT:   15%

  • Serve as a point of contact for any inquiries for Eastern US Urban Forestry projects
  • Communicate with Urban Forestry team, and across the organization, to keep large partnerships aligned with One Tree Planted goals and assist with other regions when needed
  • Seek out new projects when required by corporate donors


COMMUNITY FORESTRY SUPPORT:  10%

  • The Urban Forestry Project Manager: Eastern US will be a part of our Community Forestry team, which includes both big-picture, long-term projects as well as single-day employee engagement events and other community-based initiatives. This position will also remain flexible in providing as-needed, ad-hoc support for events, community initiatives, or other tasks.
  • Provide guidance on the technical design of events and community initiatives


ORGANIZATIONAL INITIATIVES:   5%

  • Present at conferences as a thought-leader in the field of urban forestry, and to develop and strengthen partnerships
  • Work-related travel for in-person meetings & initiatives


IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Located in the Eastern United States
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in the field of urban forestry
  • 3-5+ years project management experience
  • ISA Certified Arborist, or ability to become certified within 3 months of starting
  • Ideal candidate will be multilingual, ideally Spanish-speaking
  • Experience working with corporate sponsors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excited to speak to lots of different people every day, from Fortune 500 companies to small community groups
  • Driven and hard working
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task
  • Proficient with Google Suite, and knowledgeable of platforms such as Salesforce, Airtable, ClickUp, Smugmug, Zoom, and Canva is a plus
  • Flexible under pressure and resourceful
  • Ability to work independently in a remote office setting while contributing as part of a team balancing multiple priorities
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and creatively address challenges 
  • Collegial personality and team player
  • Willingness to learn and approach problems differently


COMPENSATION

Typical starting range is $60,000-65,000 USD which will be based on skills and experience. Annual performance increase may be available but not guaranteed.
