Accounting Operations Lead

KoBold Metals is a mineral exploration company using AI to explore for the metals we need for our transition to a low-carbon economy. KoBold’s business is discovering, defining, expanding, and developing mineral resources, and KoBold’s objective is to achieve a step-change improvement in exploration success: we aim to discover more tier 1 resources, faster, and with fewer failures.

KoBold has a global portfolio of more than 50 exploration properties targeting nickel, copper, cobalt, and lithium, which range from 100%-owned to partnerships with both majors, junior explorers, and prospectors.

Our team includes the best of the industry in exploration geoscience, data science, software engineering, operations, and business personnel. Prior to joining KoBold, KoBold team members have made nearly 20 discoveries. Our exploration programs are co-led by our geoscientists and data scientists, who develop exploration hypotheses, rigorously quantify uncertainty in our understanding of the subsurface, and design data collection programs that most effectively reduce uncertainty, drawing upon a large suite of proprietary exploration technology built by our data scientists and software engineers. Our field programs validate and improve the system and have demonstrated material improvements over conventional exploration methods

About the position

In this role, you will maintain the accounting for subsidiaries and projects of the company within assigned countries. You will help establish and maintain the infrastructure for accounting operations for new jurisdictions. You will provide support to field exploration teams by preparing project and budget reports and overseeing vendor compliance. You will record necessary transfer pricing and cross border employment entries as needed. Since KoBold is a startup company, your role will be dynamic and your role and responsibilities will grow as the company grows.  

Responsibilities

The Accounting Operations Lead will:

• Perform accounting and reporting for assigned subsidiaries 
• Understand indirect taxes, transfer pricing and other accounting issues in assigned countries 
• Support field exploration teams by preparing project reports and analysis of fieldwork expenses
• Prepare and/or review all necessary monthly/quarterly/annual filings and reports for subsidiaries 
• Perform corporate allocations and record transfer pricing entries
• Calculate cross-border payroll for entities when applicable
• Manage information flow for global tax filings with external accountants
• Implement and maintain new processes as the company grows
• Provide support for miscellaneous projects in accounting and operations
• Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

Qualifications

The candidate must have:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting with at least 10 years experience in accounting 
• Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software
• The ability to be careful and consistent about getting the details right
• Strong organizational skills and be a proactive communicator
• The ability to quickly learn new tools as needed and solve new problems continuously
• A high degree of independence and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision
• Flexibility to accommodate meetings with staff/vendors overseas
• Interest in contributing broadly to the success of the company and eager to pitch in where needed

It is helpful but not required to have experience with:

• Experience working with international operations
• Accounting for joint ventures
• Experience with technology or natural resource companies

The US base salary range for this full-time exempt position is $95,000-$125,000.
