Job Description

Pacific Biochar is growing and we are looking for an experienced freight logistics professional to help coordinate, track, and optimize the reliable and cost-effective shipping of biochar from the site of production to the end user. This will include managing quality assurance at each stage of transport and ensuring timely delivery to our customers. An ideal candidate would have extensive experience with bulk materials freight, is excited to grow with a small company, and isn’t afraid to take a leading role in the development and continuous refinement of our logistics management systems as we scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of biochar freight logistics from site of production to end use customer
  • Manage inventory at storage / distribution locations
  • Track movements of all biochar products with multiple carriers in real-time 
  • Create BOLs for loads going out to customers as well as transfers between production and storage / distribution locations (as needed)
  • Communicate logistics updates directly with Pacific Biochar team, freight carriers, production facilities, storage / distribution locations, and customers (as needed) to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of biochar products
  • Build long-term relationships with freight carriers and negotiate freight costs to find the best prices on regular shipping lanes (assist with finding and coordinating back-hauls where appropriate)
  • Keep well-organized load records including: pickup / delivery ETAs, addresses, contacts, load weights, volumes, and characteristics
  • Assist with carbon accounting tracking (i.e. load records, end use locations, delivery status, etc.)

Hours: 

  • Weekday hours of approximately 7:30 - 4:30 are required
  • Ability to provide occasional logistical support outside of normal work hours strongly desired (i.e. assistance when unforeseen events happen outside of normal work hours) 

Experience:

  • Professional experience in logistics management required
  • Professional experience in logistics management with bulk materials strongly desired (belted trailers, walking floors)
  • Experience in logistics management within California region desired
  • Experience in logistics management for agricultural and/or forestry products desired

Skills:

  • English language proficiency required
  • Word and Excel, and/or Google Docs and Sheets proficiency required
  • Spanish language proficiency desired

Location:

  • Must be physically located in Central/Northern California
  • Must be able to work from home
  • Must be able to make occasional trips to sites of production, storage locations, and end-use locations (anticipated to be approximately 1 trip/month)

Salary: 

  • $75,000/yr or better, depending on experience
