Overview

NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Bozeman, Montana; Chicago; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Washington, D.C.; and Beijing.  NRDC is seeking a Southeast Regional Outreach Manager to work with the Center for Policy Advocacy team in our Washington, DC office or remotely. 

 

Position Summary The Southeast Regional Outreach Manager is responsible for developing long-term, transformational relationships with local, state, and regional partners in collaboration with our regional campaign government affairs teams to achieve NRDC’s priorities.   

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term strategic relationships with state and regional coalition partners, facilitate relationships with new partners, and serve as regional point of contact with non-traditional allies, progressive organizations and coalitions, Latino and African American led organizations, labor unions, and national partner organizations. Identify regional engagement opportunities with national partners in consultation with the National Outreach Team.  
  • Provide direction, power mapping, and advice for developing effective coalitions to achieve the NRDC mission and priority campaign goals.   
  • Serve as primary point of contact for NRDC with state and local Civic Engagement tables, C3 roundtables, and State Voices tables.   
  • Manage regional outreach consultants and advise other departments on outreach for priority campaigns as needed.   
  • Develop a deep understanding of regional, state and local stakeholders and maintain internal database of state and regional partnership.     
  • Coordinate regional EJ coalition outreach in partnership with NRDC’s Environment, Equity and Justice Center.   
  • Represent NRDC through active participation in coalitions, providing collaboration and guidance to maximize effectiveness and grow support for needed policies.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values.  
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent experience required.   
  • At least 5-7 years of related work experience.   
  • Experience cultivating relationships with community-based organizations working on a variety of justice centered issues.  
  • Experience being part of large, cross-sector, multi-partner initiatives.  
  • Experience in coordinating with coalitions of NGO advocates, private sector allies, and/or government partners.  
  • Demonstrated ability to have and hold authentic relationships with communities of color and work in diverse teams.  
  • Experience utilizing and implementing equity frameworks or working with partners and communities to ensure equitable outcomes of policies and programs.  
  • Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards shared outcomes.  
  • Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and confident public speaker.  
  • Experience managing budgets.   
  • Willingness to travel within assigned region, as well as to other NRDC offices across the United States as needed.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary is $113,000 to $130,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.

 

Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues.  We call this purposeful presence.
