Job Description

About Rondo Energy

Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years.

To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.

We are looking for an innovative Mechanical Design Integration Engineer to join our team and help repower industrial heat at scale. In this role, you will be responsible for design integration tools across all EPC (Electronic Power Control) projects. You will also design systems, components, and tooling to support the large-scale deployment of the Rondo Heat Battery for industrial processes alongside the greater Mechanical Engineering team.

Join our team and together we can reduce world CO₂ emissions by 1% in 10 years, and by 15% in 15 years!

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate and integrate the models produced by the Design Team, Trade Contractors, and other third-party vendors
  • Perform required analysis to ensure a successful design (stress, strain, thermal, tolerance, cost and mass optimization, etc.)
  • Perform clash-detection evaluation of design model vs construction/manufacturing models to verify constructability
  • Expert knowledge of heat transfer and thermal management
  • Expertise in material science of components used in high temperature mechanical design (metals, refractory, insulation materials)
  • Leading 3D modeling within design coordination and design review meetings
  • Manage and coordinate design with other disciplines, resolving tough design issues creatively
  • Communicate effectively and timely to stakeholders and engineering teams
  • Take initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Mentor and be a technical resource for internal engineers/designers, while managing outside consultants to meet project design schedules

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • 10+/- years in Engineering with basic Field Construction experience
  • The ability to lead and influence when needed; a proven track-record of success in highly collaborative environments.
  • Expert knowledge with SolidWorks, Revit, and AutoCAD software
  • Experienced point of contact interfacing with subcontractors to integrate SOW’s for Project needs.
  • Experience working on highly integrated infrastructure projects.
  • Flexibility, openness, and creative problem-solving
  • The ability to leading large-scale projects - previous industrial / manufacturing building design experience preferred
  • Ability to bring many different groups together, but also be a hands-on Individual contributor
  • A growth and mentoring mindset, and in time ability to manage a small group of engineers and designers.
  • Confidence in owning overall design models, mitigating downstream ripple effects to support design & construction modifications in real-time

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive Medical Benefits: options for 100% of premiums covered for employee and immediate family
  • Dental Benefits with options for 75% of premiums covered
  • Vision Benefits with options for 75% of premiums covered
  • Life Insurance and ADD with options for 100% of premiums covered
  • 13 paid holidays per year, in addition to a company week-long holiday in December
  • Flexible time off policy
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Rondo HQ is close to Oakland airport - one block from the Bay - and has stunning views!
